Sr. Software Engineer
About the role
We run one of the largest digital marketplaces in residential real estate, where buyers, sellers, servicers, and agents transact on real property with real money at stake. Every listing that moves through our platform touches valuation, bidding, contracts, payments, and a long list of external systems, and the platform keeps evolving to meet the needs of the market.
We're hiring Senior Full Stack Software Engineers to help build and evolve that platform. You'll work in React and TypeScript on the front end, with Node, Kotlin, and GraphQL services behind it, running on AWS and Kubernetes.
At the senior level, you'll own complex features and technical solutions end to end—from design and architecture through build, test, deployment, and production support. You'll also help raise the engineering bar through thoughtful design decisions, code reviews, mentoring, and technical leadership.
What the work looks like
You'll work in a lean technology organization (~50 engineers), which means there isn't a lot of distance between you and the work that matters.
What you build ships.
You'll design and deliver customer-facing features and the services that power them, balancing speed with scalability, maintainability, and long-term technical health.
You'll help shape technical approaches before development begins—identifying tradeoffs, challenging assumptions, and helping the team make sound architecture and design decisions.
You'll test what you build, with automated coverage across unit, integration, API, and end-to-end testing wired into CI. We don't hand code to someone else to verify.
You'll debug complex production issues across distributed systems and help identify root causes, not just short-term fixes.
You'll be an active voice in design discussions and code reviews. Senior engineers here are expected to bring perspective, challenge approaches when needed, and help other engineers get better.
You'll work directly with product, UX, data, and other engineers. Many of the most important technical and product decisions happen in those conversations.
You'll also have room to build AI-enabled features. We're actively incorporating LLMs into customer and internal workflows, and engineers here are helping shape what that looks like.
Who does well here
You get curious when something doesn't add up. A weird log line, a metric that moved unexpectedly, or a function nobody can explain—you go find out why instead of routing around it.
You take ownership. Blockers are problems to solve, and you're comfortable navigating ambiguity, evaluating options, and moving work forward.
You have strong technical judgment. You know when a simple solution is enough and when scalability, performance, security, or architecture requires deeper thinking.
You make the engineers around you better. You share context, provide thoughtful code reviews, mentor others, and help establish good engineering practices without needing a formal leadership title.
You're still learning. Technology changes quickly, and you're genuinely interested in learning new tools and approaches—including AI—and applying them where they make sense.
You care whether it worked. Not whether the ticket closed, but whether the customer's problem was actually solved.
What you bring
5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production applications
Strong experience with React and TypeScript, or comparable modern front-end technologies
Experience building backend services with Node.js, Kotlin/Java, or similar technologies
Experience designing and working with REST and/or GraphQL APIs
Hands-on experience with AWS or a comparable cloud platform
Practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Strong automated testing practices across unit, integration, API, and/or end-to-end testing
Experience with CI/CD and modern software delivery practices
Experience with both relational and NoSQL data stores
Experience designing or contributing to scalable, distributed production systems
Strong judgment around performance, scalability, reliability, and security
Ability to independently own complex technical work from design through production
Experience mentoring engineers, contributing to code/design reviews, and helping improve engineering practices
If you have most of this and a track record of picking up the rest quickly, apply anyway. We'd rather hire someone who continues to learn than someone who simply checked every box five years ago.
AI and emerging technology
You don't need to be an AI or ML engineer. We're looking for senior software engineers who are genuinely curious about this space and want to apply it to real customer and business problems.
Any of the following is a plus: LLM and generative AI application development, AI API integrations, AWS Bedrock or comparable platforms, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), conversational interfaces, or agent and workflow automation. Personal projects count.
Nice to have
Background in fintech, proptech, real estate, mortgage, lending, payments, e-commerce, or marketplaces
Experience with high-volume transactional systems
Microservices, distributed systems, or event-driven architecture
Experience modernizing legacy applications or services
Experience on a team where engineers owned both delivery and quality
How we engineer
Quality is part of engineering, not a separate department. Engineers here test what they build and own it through production.
We keep feedback loops short: trunk-based development, feature flags, small changes, and frequent deployments.
We prefer clarity over cleverness—in code and in conversation.
We hire people who are curious, direct, accountable, and technically strong, and then give them meaningful problems to solve.
