Sr. Software Engineer, Structural

Summary

Builds software systems that modernize homebuilding workflows by combining structural engineering expertise with TypeScript-based development and AI-assisted workflows.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Software Engineer, Structural based in United States.

This is a hands-on opportunity to build the software systems that bring framing and structural analysis into modern homebuilding workflows.
You’ll join an emerging team where you can influence technical direction, shape the roadmap, and help establish engineering practices from the ground up.
The role combines software engineering with structural or mechanical engineering expertise to solve complex problems through algorithms and mathematical models.
You’ll move ideas from early prototypes to reliable, production-ready software while balancing speed, correctness, and maintainability.
Working closely with product, customer success, and engineering partners, you’ll translate real-world customer needs into robust technical solutions.
The environment is highly collaborative, fast-moving, and comfortable with ambiguity, giving you meaningful ownership over both the technology and its evolution.
There is also an opportunity to grow into a technical leadership role as the team and product mature.

Accountabilities:

  • Design and implement algorithms and software systems for framing and structural analysis, taking concepts from early prototypes through a shippable MVP.
  • Help establish technical direction for a new and evolving team, making pragmatic architecture and implementation decisions as priorities develop.
  • Apply structural engineering judgment to translate real-world framing and structural systems into reliable, scalable software.
  • Use AI-assisted development workflows to accelerate delivery while maintaining ownership of code quality, correctness, maintainability, and system behavior.
  • Partner with product, customer success, and engineering teams to define requirements, clarify expected behavior, identify gaps, and address customer needs.
  • Develop comprehensive automated tests and validation approaches that account for complex scenarios and edge cases.
  • Contribute hands-on across the codebase, investigate technical challenges deeply, and iterate based on product and user feedback.
  • Communicate technical tradeoffs, delivery expectations, risks, and decisions clearly across a dynamic organization.
  • Mentor teammates and help establish engineering practices as the team expands, with potential to grow into a technical leadership position.
  • Requirements

    • 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience, ideally with strong experience in TypeScript.
    • Academic or professional experience in structural engineering or mechanical engineering, with a solid understanding of how framing and structural systems function.
    • Familiarity with computational geometry, mathematical modeling, algorithms, and other technical approaches relevant to structural analysis.
    • Experience with modern software development tools and AI-assisted engineering workflows, combined with strong ownership of code correctness and maintainability.
    • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous, early-stage environments where priorities, scope, and technical direction may evolve.
    • Strong communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain technical decisions, tradeoffs, timelines, and risks.
    • A practical, delivery-oriented mindset with a willingness to ship working software, gather feedback, and continuously improve solutions.
    • Experience with framing, structural analysis, CAD/CAM tooling, or related construction technology is highly desirable.
    • Experience working across different technology stacks, such as C# or Python, with the ability and willingness to work with TypeScript and React.
    • Genuine interest in homebuilding, construction, home design, or technology that can modernize the built environment is a plus.
    • Benefits

      • Competitive salary and significant equity participation within a fast-growing, well-funded company.
      • Remote-first work environment, with the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States.
      • Flexible working hours designed to support productivity while maintaining personal flexibility.
      • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance for eligible full-time U.S. employees.
      • Flexible paid time off.
      • Meaningful maternity and paternity leave.
      • Short- and long-term disability coverage.
      • 401(k) retirement plan.
      • Home-office stipend to help create an effective remote working environment.
      • Opportunity to join an early-stage team and directly influence the technical direction of an emerging product.
      • Potential for career growth into technical leadership as the organization and team expand.
