Marotta Controls Sr. Staff Engineer, Motor Design
- Experience in Designing, Prototyping, Assembly, and Testing of electromagnetic topologies for high performance & reliability aerospace and defense motors & products in an AS9100 environment.
- Develops breakthrough motor technologies, enabling Marotta to win in our served market segments.
- Expert with materials selection and GD&T to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost.
- Experience with electromagnetic principles and analysis (Finite Element Analysis, Simulation, Modeling)
- Leveraging previous motor design and development experience, play a leader/facilitator role in the design and manufacturing to optimize cost, efficiency, mass, thermal, etc. (system tradeoffs)
- Experience in materials selection, secondary processing, and workmanship principles required in a high performance motor manufacturing environment
- Collaborate closely with actuation system & test engineering to drive winning new programs driving manufacturable designs
- Knowledge of design principles, operation, testing, and reliability for motor subcomponents design and development such as magnet wires, insulation systems, laminations, magnets, shaft, bearing, enclosures, EMI, sealing, etc.
- Works with suppliers to ensure conformity to requirements and specifications as dictated by the contract and technical documentation such as drawings and specifications, etc.
- Inspects, witnesses, and/or verifies in-process and final inspections of product to ensure conformity to specifications and requirements
- Audit/Review supplier processes to ensure proper risk mitigation steps are being taken during the manufacturing processes
- Reviews technical documents such as prints and specifications during product development to identify potential manufacturing challenges or design related cost drivers.
- Must be a US Citizen
- Travel to Marotta facilities and supplier manufacturing sites as needed
- Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required).
- Developing a thorough understanding of the customer’s requirements while considering and balancing cost, technology, schedule, and risk.
- Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements.
- Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization
- Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. and support actions to drive company initiatives/goals
- Assist in the training of personnel to perform required technical tasks (as directed)

- Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.
- This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required)
- This is a full-time position. Additional time and weekend work may be required, as job duties demand.
- Infrequent travel is required for this position
- B.S. in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience or other degrees may be considered)
- 5-10 years’ experience in electro-magnetic motors, windings, products, and systems engineering
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as any and all outside agents, including but not limited to; suppliers, customers, potential job candidates, etc.
- Highly computer literate, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc.
- Excellent problem-solving techniques and analytical ability
- While performing the duties of this job, the Engineer is regularly required to see, talk and hear.
- The Engineer is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
- The Engineer is frequently required to sit at length, stand, walk, and move about the facility.
- The Engineer may be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 30 pounds
