Job Overview
A Senior Systems Engineer leads projects related to creating system architecture, develops and defines system and product requirements, defines methods for verifying compliance to requirements, creates new solutions for the systems, and helps systems work more effectively. This individual may train or mentor Systems Engineers who have less experience and make decisions on projects and department activities. Their overall purpose is to ensure the product or system runs as efficiently as possible and works consistently to meet the needs of the company.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for providing engineering expertise, oversight, and participation in activities involving weapon systems and associated hardware/software development, integration, test, configuration management, and acquisition and resource management for new capabilities to an existing weapon system.
- Develops and documents system and subsystem level specified and derived requirements and allocates requirements through the appropriate work breakdown structure (WBS) as codified in a System Requirements Review (SRR) process
- Supports the requirements identification, verification, validation, and testing process
- Supports program technical interchange meetings, program management reviews, executive management reviews, test-related meetings, lab and flight test events, integrated product team meetings, software/hardware design reviews, platform integration meetings, etc.
- Acts as engineering team leader, developing system engineering procedures and controls, managing project efforts, and taking the lead in problem resolution for aircraft research, development, production, and lifecycle acquisition and sustainment activities
- Interfaces with weapons system contractors, vendors, and Government representatives regarding the technical aspects of engineering activities
- Independently applies engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan, oversee, and evaluate weapons system development and sustainment activities
- Reviews and prepares engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation

Qualifications and Competencies
- Skilled in use of DOORs, Cameo or other requirements management systems
- Project management skills and experience with MS Project
- Experience using workflow management software such as Jira
- Comfort with SysML and Block Diagram Development in tools such as Visio, Cameo, and/or Enterprise Architect
- Skilled working in the setting of an integrated product team (IPT) and/or serving as a lead of one.
- Ability to decompose complex systems into manageable subsystems and architectures that meet requirements.
- Comfort eliciting and decomposing requirements into validatable items and assigning measures (KPIs) for them.
- Demonstrated Organization and Leadership skills
- Excellent communication (verbal and written).
- Ability to work collaboratively across functional boundaries to apply problem-solving and analytical skills
- Knowledge of data privacy.
Education / Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or related field
- Master's degree in Systems Engineering desired

Experience
- Minimum ten (10) years' experience in functional area with a bachelor's degree
- Five (5) years' experience in functional area with a master's degree
- At least five (5) years of system engineering experience on DoD programs/projects applying various MIL-STD, MIL-HDBK, and DoD certification processes
