Sr. Systems Engineer/Design Engineering Lead
Overview
Abacus Technology is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to provide technical communications design support for the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) at Arnold AFB. This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities
- Support systems engineering efforts for communications/IT and related specialties (e.g., Instrumentation, Data, and Controls, Control Systems, Network Engineering, Inside/Outside Plant, etc.).
- Lead a small team of project managers, junior design engineers and drafters on behalf of the contract’s Program Manager.
- Provide engineering reviews and develop solutions for the analysis, design, integration, installation, testing, and life-cycle support of new and upgraded systems associated with infrastructure capabilities.
- Perform requirements analyses and conceptual designs.
- Survey, evaluate, and provide technical oversight concerning all existing infrastructures, communications, and environmental aspects of the site.
- Provide an implementation plan reflecting the strategy, schedule, and recommendations (i.e., site architecture, topology, and configuration) for the implementation with considerations of on-site failover and continuity of operations.
- Work with other senior engineers to design, develop, install, document, and test custom solutions and their infrastructures.
- Provide network management and technical support in the area of communications engineering with an emphasis on distribution systems for complex and critical communications projects.
- Implement, test, integrate, and support requirements for AF IT infrastructure to meet mission requirements and regulatory constraints, within a required time frame designated by the Government.
- Provide technical and management insights for future efforts to transition the base from the existing LAN/MAN to newer technologies.
- Investigate and analyze innovative and emerging technologies that in the most economic and efficient manner improve not only IT system performance and support, but also mission performance.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate installation existing and planned information technology environment, assess areas for improvement, collect recommendations and implement desired changes.
- Work with the senior engineer and management team to support IT strategic planning in conjunction with the government.
Qualifications
5+ years of practical experience in systems engineering and integration. Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field is highly desirable. Must hold or be able to obtain a Security+ CE certification. Thorough understanding of application software, operating systems, networks, storage platforms, and how they relate to system architecture. Experience working on each stage of the system development life cycle from initiation through deployment/sustainment. Experience with ITIL and IT best practices. Familiar with process modeling and workflow diagrams. Able to elicit and interpret requirements and work with the senior engineer to translate into technical specifications/system design following best practices and design patterns. Able to communicate with management, technical staff, and end users in a clear and professional manner. Extensive experience with IT engineering practices, techniques, and standards. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to develop and present technical presentations to senior government and contract professionals. Able to develop and represent complex data in diagrams or through other techniques that communicate precise information to both business and technical staff. Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a Secret security clearance.
