Position Summary
The SRM Assistant Project Manager supports the planning, coordination, and execution of large-loss commercial restoration and disaster-recovery projects throughout the United States. This position works closely with Project Managers, Supervisors, field employees, subcontractors, and other project personnel to help ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Company and client standards.
The Assistant Project Manager provides day-to-day field leadership and support, monitors project progress, maintains required documentation, assists with quality and safety oversight, and helps ensure crews have the information, equipment, materials, and resources necessary to perform their work successfully.
Responsibilities
- Assist with daily project planning, crew assignments, line-ups, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) reviews, and employee and subcontractor headcounts.
- Support Project Managers and Supervisors with daily planning, documentation, photographs, procedures, and other project requirements.
- Monitor project progress and maintain project maps, reports, assignment sheets, photographs, and other required project documentation.
- Help ensure employees and subcontractors comply with Company and client safety requirements, including proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Monitor field operations for quality, productivity, organization, cleanliness, and compliance with Company and client standards.
- Assist with establishing and maintaining temporary project offices, PPE stations, sign-in areas, break areas, smoking areas, muster points, and other designated project areas.
- Assist with training and supporting Supervisors regarding paperwork, photographs, Company policies and procedures, safety expectations, and project requirements.
- Monitor Company vehicles and equipment for cleanliness, organization, and visible operating or maintenance concerns, and communicate concerns to appropriate project personnel.
- Help ensure crews have the necessary equipment, tools, materials, and supplies before work begins and that Company property is properly used, tracked, maintained, and stored.
- Review equipment tracking and scanning records and assist with verifying that project equipment and supplies are properly accounted for.
- Verify, as appropriate, that employees assigned to operate vehicles or equipment have the required training, qualifications, licenses, or other authorization.
- Communicate anticipated equipment, material, and supply needs to the Project Manager and other appropriate project personnel.
- Assist with preparation and updating of project reports for Project Manager review.
- Support project teams in understanding emergency procedures involving electrical systems, fire suppression systems, water lines, and other project-specific hazards.
- Respond to questions or concerns raised by Supervisors and Technicians regarding project procedures, work methods, safety concerns, or expected work product and escalate concerns when appropriate.
- Assist with determining equipment needs for structural drying and environmental control activities, including generators and other restoration equipment.
- Assist with estimating labor, equipment, materials, power requirements, and time needed to complete assigned project activities.
- Support resolution of routine field staffing, labor, workflow, and operational concerns.
- Maintain a positive, professional, and productive work environment throughout the project.
- Perform other duties as assigned or as business needs require.
Skills & Qualifications
Required
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet applicable Company driving requirements.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with employees, subcontractors, clients, and management.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and complete required project documentation accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a project team.
- Ability to provide direction and support to field employees, subcontractors, and temporary labor.
- Mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of restoration-related tools, equipment, and processes used in commercial or large-loss restoration projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to use handheld smart devices, project software, and other technology required by the Company.
- Ability to identify project needs and recognize and appropriately communicate operational, quality, or safety concerns.
- Ability to meet applicable medical, safety, and training requirements associated with assigned work, including respirator medical evaluation and fit testing when required.
Preferred
- Commercial or large-loss restoration experience.
- Experience assisting with supervision or coordination of field crews, subcontractors, or temporary labor.
- Experience with heavy equipment such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, skid steers, telescopic forklifts, and warehouse forklifts.
- Experience with generators, environmental control equipment, structural drying equipment, extraction equipment, and other restoration-related tools.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily at active restoration and disaster-recovery jobsites throughout the United States. Conditions vary by project and may include indoor and outdoor work, construction and demolition environments, exposure to dust, debris, cleaning products or chemicals, wet or damaged structures, noise, and temperatures ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold. Work may be performed during rain, snow, or other adverse weather conditions. Required PPE must be worn based on jobsite conditions and assigned work.
Work Schedule & Travel Requirements
This position requires extensive nationwide travel as an essential function of the role and may require travel 200 or more days per year. Assignments may require travel by commercial aircraft and/or extended driving and may require remaining at project locations for extended periods.
Work schedules are driven by project, customer, and emergency-response needs and may vary significantly. Associates must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, and consecutive workdays. During active large-loss or emergency-response projects, shifts may exceed 12 hours and assignments may continue for multiple days or weeks. Associates must be able to respond to changing project needs and deployment requirements, subject to applicable law and Company policy.
Physical Demands
The physical demands of this position include prolonged standing and walking; frequent bending, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, climbing, and repetitive use of the hands and arms. The associate must be able to climb ladders, work at elevated or ceiling heights, work in tight or confined work areas, and perform physical restoration and selective-demolition activities.
The associate must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and may occasionally be required to move items weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance or appropriate equipment. The position also requires the ability to wear required PPE, including a half-face or full-face respirator when necessary, and to complete applicable medical evaluation and fit-testing requirements.
Employees may also be required to operate or travel in Company vehicles for extended periods and perform work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
