Description

About the role

This position is located within the Secretariat for Special Operations (SSO), Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict (OASW(SO/LIC)). OASW(SO/LIC) exercises statutory oversight of special operations-peculiar administrative matters, readiness, resources, and personnel.

The Facilities Operations Specialist serves as the dedicated lead for end-to-end facilities management, infrastructure readiness, and space administration across all SSO work environments within the Pentagon and the Mark Center. Operating within a Washington Headquarters Services (WHS)-serviced environment, this role serves as the authoritative operational conduit between organizational leadership, tenant personnel, WHS building managers, building engineers, and external commercial vendors.

From day-to-day maintenance tickets and ergonomic furniture deployments to high-impact office relocations, space reconfigurations, and multi-phase renovation projects, the Facilities Operations Specialist ensures that all collateral and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) spaces remain safe, compliant, fully operational, and aligned with mission requirements.

What you'll do

Space & Facility Lifecycle Management: Serves as the primary operational liaison to Washington Headquarters Services (WHS) Facilities Services Directorate across the Pentagon and Mark Center footprints. The incumbent submits, tracks, and resolves all work orders, HVAC adjustments, repairs, and custodial requests. Through routine walkthroughs of executive suites, open bays, and secure conference facilities, the Specialist proactively identifies hazards and ensures building trades maintain high standards of workspace readiness.

Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment (FF&E): Manages the full lifecycle of systems furniture, executive desking, and demountable partitions. Responsibilities include defining furniture requirements, obtaining vendor quotes, tracking procurements, and supervising on-site delivery and assembly. The role maintains property accountability and oversees excess property actions, including de-installation, staging, and formal turn-in via DLA Disposition Services and WHS property disposal channels.

Office Relocations & Project Execution: Plans and executes personnel moves, office restacking initiatives, and space modernizations across both facilities. The Specialist coordinates directly with government space planners, architects, general contractors, and low-voltage cabling teams. Duties include managing vendor access rosters, loading dock and freight elevator schedules, and escorting uncleared commercial trades within secured areas to ensure zero mission downtime.

Physical Security & Life Safety: Coordinates with the Special Security Officer (SSO) to enforce ICD 705 compliance across all physical modifications, penetrations, and layout changes in secure spaces. The Specialist oversees key control, cypher lock combinations, and secure container assignments. Additionally, the role serves as organizational safety lead and floor warden, maintaining emergency action plans and directing evacuation and shelter-in-place drills.

Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility (TS/SCI). U.S. Citizenship required.
  • 5 to 8+ years of progressive experience in facilities management, commercial space planning, corporate moves, or facility project coordination within the federal government or defense enterprise.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Washington Headquarters Services (WHS) service mechanisms, Pentagon and Mark Center building operations, and building ticket/work order submission workflows.
  • Practical experience operating within secure environments (SCIFs, SAPFs, and secure conference facilities), including familiarity with physical security constraints, escort procedures, and construction/modification standards.
  • Proven track record leading large-scale office relocations, furniture installations, vendor management, and physical space redesigns.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field (equivalent operational experience may substitute for formal education).

Desired Skills:

  • Familiar or experience with SOF operations, secure environments, and federal space utilization standards. Ability to think at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels to visualize impacts of decision making in complex systems.
  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Facility Management Professional (FMP), Project Management or Process Improvement certification (PMI, SCRUM, ACP) with ability to analyze complex processes and provide recommendations to improve effectiveness.
  • Direct experience navigating DoD property accountability and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Disposition Services / DRMO processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior military flag officers, Senior Executive Service (SES) civilians, building trade workers, and external contractors.
