ST Cyber Lab Aide - Downtown Center

Position Summary

Position Summary: The Student - Cyber Lab Aide is responsible for assisting in the safe and secure set up of computers in the cyber lab, as well as assisting students with coursework within the Cybersecurity AAS degree.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities: Within the scope of college policies and procedures, this position:

Assists students in the completion and understanding of tasks and assignments associated with CYB 101, CYB 102, CYB 103, CYB 110, and CYB 125 assuming the candidate has completed the listed classes; assists students with higher-level courses on a case-by-case basis.

Maintain inventory control for several projects concurrently

Installing, building, and staging Virtual servers for upcoming labs and assisting System Administrators with other automated tasks.

Able to work as a small team to troubleshoot, isolate, and resolve issues Layer 1-3 issues.

Assist in updating lab Standard Operating Procedures and testing existing incident response plans

Assist with the configuration of software, virtual images & hardware for upcoming labs.

Responsible for the storage and organization of computer hardware and peripherals.

Some experience with virtual orchestrators, cloning VMs, creating snapshots, deploying Windows/Linux, basic Cisco commands, wired, and wireless troubleshooting are some of the everyday tasks being scoped for this position.

Sets up, operates and troubleshoots all computers, printers, and software applicable to the Cyber Lab, including use of educational software, Internet, word processing, desktop publishing and spreadsheet applications

Performs basic lab maintenance such as running basic equipment and network troubleshooting, and records malfunctions; assists in running network cable as needed

Installs hardware and software as required; runs updates of operations systems including anti-virus software

Performs routine computer lab inventory

Maintains the physical appearance and ease of use of the facility

Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Education and Experience; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience Requirements:

Enrollment at Cochise College with a minimum of 6 credits per semester and 3 credits in the summer

Possess and maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or higher

Students attending Cochise College on an F-1 Visa require full-time enrollment with a minimum of 12 credits per semester and six credits in the summer

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures

Knowledge of current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications and Google Apps

Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and methods related to equipment

Knowledge of current information technology

Knowledge of computer hardware and software

Ability to communicate with students in a manner that is encouraging and understanding

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner

Ability to relate to a diverse population in a professional and helpful manner, and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations

Ability to work independently while contributing to team environment

Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information

Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Work Environment: Work is primarily performed under general supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical classroom and/or laboratory setting with appropriate climate controls.

Physical Requirements: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly, incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, or handle

Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem solving skills are important
