About UpSwell

UpSwell is a fast-growing marketing agency helping businesses across the country grow through innovative direct mail and digital marketing solutions. As a five-time Best and Brightest Company to Work For, we are proud of the talented people, collaborative culture, and entrepreneurial spirit that make UpSwell a great place to build a career. As we continue to expand, we are looking for exceptional people who bring fresh perspectives, strong work ethics, and a genuine desire to make things better.

About the Opportunity

UpSwell is looking for a talented, detail-oriented Staff Accountant who combines strong accounting fundamentals with curiosity, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

We are looking for someone who understands how accounting activities connect to the bigger financial picture, recognizes when something does not look right, and takes the initiative to investigate and resolve issues. The ideal candidate is a quick learner who enjoys working with numbers, digging into details, and finding better ways to get things done. You are organized, dependable, comfortable working independently, and take pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.

You will work closely with the Controller and Accounting team, contribute to the monthly close process, support day-to-day accounting operations, and help strengthen our financial processes as the company continues to grow.

If you are someone who asks thoughtful questions, takes ownership from start to finish, and wants to continue developing your accounting career in a dynamic, growing company, we'd love to meet you.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries in Sage, ensuring accuracy and appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve outstanding items.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, account analysis, and financial reporting preparation.
  • Accurately record and reconcile incoming manual payments.
  • Process and manage an assigned portion of company accounts payable, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  • Maintain purchase-order-related expense records and perform assigned vendor reconciliations.
  • Assist with financial audits by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, and responding to requests.
  • Apply GAAP principles and established accounting policies to daily transactions and financial activities.
  • Review financial transactions for accuracy, identify unusual activity or inconsistencies, and research potential issues.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and increase efficiency through technology and automation.
  • Partner with the Controller and Accounting team on special projects, reporting, and other accounting initiatives.
  • Perform additional accounting responsibilities as needed.

Work Arrangement

This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Marietta, Georgia, requiring two full days in the office each week. Additional hours may occasionally be necessary during month-end close, year-end close, or other critical accounting deadlines.
