Owns end-to-end research and design: interviewing couples, designing AI conversations and recommendations, and evaluating AI experience quality, working directly with the founder and engineering team.

Compensation: $150k – $220k • 0.5% – 1.0%

About Deeply

Deeply is building a Relationship Operating System for Couples.

We help couples understand each other, navigate recurring challenges, and build healthier relationships through AI-powered conversations, weekly check-ins, personalized recommendations, and shared agreements.

Our goal is to help couples experience meaningful improvements in their relationships with less effort.

We're an early-stage startup working closely with real couples to build an exceptional AI-native consumer product.

The Role

We're looking for an exceptional Staff AI Product Designer who combines the instincts of a UX researcher, the understanding of a behavioral scientist, and the craft of a product designer.

You'll own the process of understanding our users, identifying opportunities, designing better experiences, and validating that those improvements deliver real value.

This is an end-to-end product role. You'll work directly with the founder and engineering team, with significant ownership over the quality and direction of the product.

Your mission: Turn a deep understanding of people and their relationships into AI-powered experiences that genuinely help them.

What You'll Do

1. Understand Users & Identify Opportunities

  • Interview couples and analyze qualitative and quantitative product data.
  • Review AI conversations, check-ins, recommendations, and user behavior.
  • Identify unmet needs, relationship patterns, experience failures, and opportunities for improvement.

2. Design Exceptional AI Experiences

  • Design AI conversations, personalized recommendations, reports, and product workflows.
  • Translate psychological and behavioral insights into intuitive, effective experiences.
  • Own the process from problem discovery through prototyping, testing, and implementation.

3. Evaluate & Improve Product Quality

  • Develop evaluation frameworks for AI understanding, conversations, and recommendations.
  • Identify why experiences succeed or fail and develop hypotheses for improvement.
  • Work with engineers to ship improvements and measure their impact on users.

4. Drive Product Direction

  • Synthesize research into clear product recommendations and priorities.
  • Identify the highest-leverage opportunities to improve user outcomes.
  • Help shape our product strategy, design principles, and experimentation practices.

What We're Looking For

Must Have

  • Exceptional product design and interaction design skills, with experience shipping consumer products.
  • Strong UX research skills, including user interviews, qualitative synthesis, and behavioral analysis.
  • Excellent product judgment and ability to independently solve ambiguous problems.
  • Deep curiosity about psychology, relationships, and human behavior.
  • Ability to translate complex insights into simple, compelling user experiences.
  • High ownership and comfort working in an early-stage startup.

Strong Plus

  • Experience designing AI-native products, conversational interfaces, or LLM-powered experiences.
  • Background in behavioral science, psychology, relationship science, or mental health.
  • Experience with AI evaluations, personalized recommendations, or behavior-change products.
  • Experience using quantitative data and qualitative research to drive product improvements.

No coding required, but you should be comfortable collaborating closely with engineers.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 90 days, you'll have:

  • Developed a deep understanding of our users and their relationship needs.
  • Established a systematic approach to evaluating AI and product experience quality.
  • Identified and prioritized the biggest opportunities to improve our core experience.
  • Designed, tested, and shipped meaningful product improvements.
  • Demonstrated measurable progress in user-perceived value, experience quality, or relationship outcomes.

Who Will Thrive Here

You're someone who loves understanding people as much as designing products.

You combine analytical rigor with empathy, psychological curiosity, and excellent design instincts. You're comfortable moving from messy user data to clear insights, from insights to prototypes, and from prototypes to shipped improvements.

You don't just want to make products easier to use. You want to make them fundamentally more useful.

At Deeply, you'll have the opportunity to help define a new category of AI-native relationship products and build something that meaningfully improves people's lives.
