About the Role

The CX (Customer Experience) Engineering team is responsible for the core user journey of millions of Coupang Play customers. We lead the development of key customer touchpoints such as home feed, content discovery, premium content experience (Sports Pass, Content Pass), subscription, and user growth, focusing on delivering optimal value based on data.

As a Staff Android Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader within the CX team, elevating the engineering standards across the entire Android platform. Beyond simple feature implementation, you will lead initiatives for scalable architecture design, performance optimization, and development productivity enhancement. Additionally, you will work closely with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, Backend) to technically realize business requirements and foster the growth of fellow engineers as a mentor.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead CX Product Engineering: Spearhead the technical design of key features with high traffic, such as home feed, content discovery, premium content experience (Sports Pass, Content Pass), subscription, and user growth, and solve complex business problems.
  • Architecture Modernization: Drive modularization based on MVVM/MVI patterns and Clean Architecture, introducing dependency management and scalable design patterns.
  • Accelerate Jetpack Compose Transition: Formulate strategies to migrate legacy XML-based UIs to declarative UI (Compose) and build reusable Design System Components to maximize development efficiency.
  • Optimize Performance & Stability: Continuously monitor and improve app startup time, scroll frame rates, and memory usage; maintain high app stability utilizing Crashlytics and Observability tools. Design and build client-side performance metrics collection and monitoring dashboards to proactively detect and respond to incidents.
  • Establish Engineering Standards & Mentoring: Establish development standards by leading code reviews, API design reviews, and technical spec writing; mentor junior engineers to help them grow technically.
  • Global Scale Collaboration: Collaborate with Product Owners, Designers, and Backend Engineers to technically refine the product roadmap and support data-driven decision-making using A/B testing and experimentation platforms.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience building robust CI/CD pipelines and setting up automated testing environments (JUnit, Espresso/Kaspresso).
  • Ability to communicate smoothly with other teams based on data-driven problem-solving skills and logical thinking.

Preferred Qualifications
