Staff Application Engineer

Job Summary

Staff Applications Engineer responsible for the development and qualification of DC-DC power converter products with Renesas’s advanced control architecture. Supports the Mobile end markets with emphasis on VCORE controller and SPS products in Taiwan design center. Responsible for the entire product development cycle of power management IC’s.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, R&D, Firmware, and Marketing to translate customer requirements into product features, configuration options, and roadmap feedback.
  • Plan and execute product validation and characterization to demonstrate performance, robustness, and compliance to customer use-cases
  • Develop test plans, automate bench measurements where applicable, analyze data, and generate concise reports to support internal release decisions and customer communications.
  • Create and review customer-facing collateral such as datasheets, application notes, user guides, design guidelines, and troubleshooting FAQs; ensure technical accuracy and clarity.
  • Support silicon bring-up and customer configuration (GUI/firmware/PMBus as applicable), including loop compensation guidance, sequencing, telemetry setup.
  • Must have a Minimum of BS+7 or MS+5 or PhD+3 in the power management industry
  • Must have experience with multiphase controller and/or SPS powering Intel/AMD/SoC systems
  • Good understanding of basic DC/DC topology, control loop theory, magnetic and application in power converters
  • Proficiency with a full complement of lab equipment including network analyzers, oscilloscopes and waveform generators. Experience with automation of lab testing.
  • Proficiency with PCB CAD tools for both schematic and layout.
  • Excellent lab-based problem-solving skills. Ability to debug & dig out the root cause.
  • Experience with SIMPLIS or similar circuit simulator in a switching regulator context
  • Mixed-signal Integrated Circuit/System knowledge/experience.
  • Familiar with power management architectures of mobile and other battery powered devices such as smartphones, tablet and PCs.
  • Must possess excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
