Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) is seeking a passionate and dedicated attorney to join our team as a Domestic Violence (VOCA) Staff Attorney in our Parkersburg office.

Position Summary

The Domestic Violence (VOCA) Staff Attorney will provide direct legal representation, advice, brief services, outreach, and community education primarily to survivors of domestic violence and other crimes. The attorney will work closely with community partners, victim service providers, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, shelters, and advocacy organizations to ensure survivors receive comprehensive legal assistance.


The attorney's work may include:

  • Domestic violence protective orders and related proceedings.
  • Family law matters, including divorce, custody, visitation, guardianship, and child support.
  • Housing matters affecting survivor safety and housing stability.
  • Consumer, financial, and economic security issues impacting survivors.
  • Public benefits and access-to-services issues.
  • Safety planning and legal advocacy for survivors of domestic violence.
  • Community education and outreach regarding legal rights and available services.
  • Collaboration with domestic violence programs, law enforcement, courts, and community organizations.
  • Other civil legal matters consistent with funding requirements, office needs, and organizational priorities.
