Staff Content Designer
Summary
As the first content designer, you will establish the voice, terminology, and content standards for an AI-powered product. You will independently lead content-driven features from concept to launch, working across product, design, and engineering teams.
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Content Designer based in United States.
This is a foundational content design role at the intersection of product design, language, and AI-powered software creation. As the first content designer, you will establish the standards that shape how users experience the product through words. You will define voice, terminology, content patterns, and systems that help teams create clearer experiences at scale. Beyond content strategy, you will independently take content-led features from early problem definition through design and implementation. You’ll work in a fast-moving, globally distributed environment where ambiguity is expected and individual ownership is highly valued. This opportunity is ideal for a senior content designer who wants to build the discipline while directly shaping the product.
Accountabilities
- Establish and own the product content standard, including voice, terminology, language patterns, and guidance for recurring experiences such as prompts, errors, empty states, permissions, billing, and settings.
- Embed content standards into the design system, reusable components, internal tools, and workflows so teams can consistently produce high-quality product experiences.
- Review and improve product writing across the organization, providing practical feedback that strengthens the content judgment and capabilities of non-design partners and fellow writers.
- Develop and lead the overall content strategy, influencing product direction from problem definition through execution rather than focusing solely on copy refinement at the end of the process.
- Independently take content-led features from concept to launch, including feature onboarding, in-product education, and key value-proposition moments.
- Act as the design owner for content-led experiences, using Figma or AI-powered/agentic tools to design, iterate, and drive work through implementation without relying on a dedicated product designer.
- Collaborate across Marketing, Customer Experience, Product, Engineering, and other teams to ensure messaging remains consistent throughout the customer journey.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating product content design work, including at least two detailed examples that explain the problem, reasoning, alternatives considered, and outcomes after launch.
- Experience working on complex products at meaningful scale, with an emphasis on strategic judgment and measurable impact rather than visual polish alone.
- Demonstrated ability to take a content-led feature from problem definition through shipped experience independently, including designing in Figma or building with AI-powered/agentic tools.
- Experience creating content standards, systems, frameworks, or guidelines that have been adopted and used effectively by other teams.
- Ability to provide thoughtful, constructive feedback to stakeholders outside design and to collaborate with other writers as a peer.
- Strong product thinking and the ability to determine what a product should communicate, when it should communicate it, and how much information users need.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and customers.
- Startup or small-team experience is a plus, particularly in environments that require high ownership and rapid execution.
- Experience designing content for AI tools or conversational interfaces is highly valued.
- Experience spanning product, marketing, support, or knowledge content, as well as consumer-facing products, is a plus.
- A college degree is not required; demonstrated expertise, judgment, and relevant experience are valued more highly.
- Opportunity to become the first content designer and establish the content design discipline, standards, and systems from the ground up.
- High degree of ownership and autonomy, with direct influence over product direction and user experience.
- Fully remote-friendly environment with the flexibility to work from locations outside the United States.
- Opportunity to work on an AI-powered product at the forefront of software development and digital creation.
- Fast-moving, globally distributed, and highly collaborative team environment.
- Significant exposure to product strategy, design systems, AI tools, and cross-functional product development.
- Opportunity to shape experiences used by a broad and growing developer and creator audience.
- Inclusive approach to hiring that does not require candidates to meet every listed qualification.
