Staff Engineer - Firmware Development (SSD)
Main Responsibilities
Develop firmware IP subsystems for SSD products to meet performance, endurance, capacity, functionality, quality, and reliability requirements.
Execute firmware development, integration, bench testing, debugging, and validation activities for SSD controllers and storage products.
Perform root cause analysis, failure triage, and defect isolation; document findings and support corrective actions.
Develop and maintain firmware unit, functional, and integration tests to ensure quality and performance objectives are met throughout the product lifecycle.
Collaborate with hardware, validation, system, and product engineering teams to resolve complex development issues and improve product readiness.
Analyze firmware behavior and support enhancements that improve performance, reduce latency, lower power consumption, and simplify SoC complexity.
Other Responsibilities
Provide detailed and accurate technical updates, project status reports, and development summaries to management and cross-functional stakeholders.
Maintain collaborative relationships across engineering teams and contribute to a positive, high-performance team environment.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and problem-solving support.
Continuously develop technical expertise in firmware architecture, storage technologies, and software engineering best practices.
AI Responsibilities
Integrates AI-assisted tools and insights into daily work to improve efficiency, quality, or effectiveness, exercising sound judgment and complying with organizational standards and legal requirements.
Contributes to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, testing, and sharing AI-enabled enhancements within one’s scope of work.
Qualifications
B.Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
Over 5 years’ relevant experience in firmware or embedded systems development using the C programming language.
Technical Skills
Embedded firmware development using C and other high-level programming languages (e.g., Python).
Firmware debugging, issue isolation, code analysis, root cause investigation, and validation activities.
Low-level software development, including assembly language programming.
Firmware analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance.
Soft Skills
Structured problem-solving and analytical thinking.
Clear technical communication and documentation skills.
Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
Ability to work independently and manage technical priorities.
Mentoring and technical leadership capabilities.
Preferred Skills
Python programming and automation experience.
Experience with PCIe and NVMe storage interfaces.
Experience with SSD products, storage systems, or the storage industry.
Experience with NAND flash memory and other non-volatile storage technologies.
Ability to apply baseline digital fluency and role‑appropriate AI literacy to use AI‑enabled tools responsibly and effectively for research, analysis, content creation, problem‑solving, operational tasks, and achieving business outcomes
