Staff Forward Deployed Engineer Agentic SDLC
You will work directly with strategic customers to diagnose and resolve complex adoption, architecture, performance, and operational challenges. You will contribute production-quality code, fixes, features, integrations, and tooling; turn field learning into reusable product improvements and implementation patterns; and support governed adoption of agentic software development workflows. You will coordinate cross-functional resolution, provide data-driven technical recommendations, create technical guidance and thought-leadership materials, and transition durable outcomes to long-term owners.
Responsibilities
- Contribute production-quality code to product and adjacent systems
- Develop bug fixes, features, integrations, tooling, and performance improvements
- Follow engineering processes for discovery, merge requests, testing, review, documentation, and maintainability
- Turn customer blockers into durable product improvements, reference architectures, documentation, and repeatable patterns
- Diagnose complex product, architecture, infrastructure, networking, API, observability, and CI/CD issues
- Coordinate cross-functional resolution from discovery through handoff
- Provide data-driven recommendations to improve workflows, automation, and architecture
- Drive governed adoption of GitLab Duo Agent Platform
- Resolve AI adoption blockers involving governance, security, compliance, auditability, workflow design, and integrations
- Create customer-safe patterns for agentic SDLC and AI-assisted development
- Create technical narratives, frameworks, whitepapers, webinars, and technical strategy materials
Requirements
- Staff-level experience building, operating, or improving complex production software systems
- Experience contributing to large mature product codebases with testing, maintainability, performance, and security standards
- Strong Ruby on Rails or Go experience
- Experience with AI-assisted software development, agentic workflows, AI governance, model evaluation, context management, prompt design, workflow design, or enterprise AI adoption
- Experience diagnosing complex system behavior across application code, data stores, infrastructure, observability, networking, APIs, and customer usage patterns
- Deep knowledge of DevSecOps workflows, Git, merge requests, CI/CD, security controls, compliance, and enterprise software delivery
- Experience working with strategic customers or senior technical stakeholders in ambiguous high-impact situations
- Ability to coordinate across product, engineering, field, and customer teams without formal authority
- Strong written communication and technical narrative skills
