Staff Hardware System Engineer, Home and Health
Summary
A staff-level hardware system engineer drives Google Home consumer devices (thermostats, smart displays) from concept through mass production under a JDM model — leading design proposals, writing engineering requirement specs, and coordinating cross-functional stakeholders. Core focus is electrical/system design in consumer electronics, spanning architecture, power/battery/SoC, interfaces, or anal
- Resolve and mediate conflicts, risks, priorities and tradeoffs, helping the core team coordinate next steps, build consensus, and land in solution space.
- Ensure hardware specification deliverables are met at each design phase.
- Lead new design concept features through exploration, prototyping, and implementation to mass production.
- Partner with Product Design (PD)/Engineering Program Management (EPM)/Cross-Functional (XFN) leads to assessing the technical feasibility of the system integration and program schedule.
- Communicate across system level issues.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6 years of experience working in consumer electronics system design.
- Experience in one of the following domains, such as architecture, power/battery/Soc, interfaces, or analog/camera/display engineering.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience leading teams or mentoring in JDM/Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) models.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to travel 10% of the time domestically or internationally.
