About the role
Every Crunchyroll experience starts with identity: creating an account, signing in on a phone, PC, TV, or console, recovering access, verifying age, and trusting that an account is safe. As Staff Product Manager for Identity & Access, you'll own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for how over 20m fans around the world get into Crunchyroll and stay in control of their accounts.
You'll lead the full identity surface — sign-up, sign-in, account recovery, multi-factor authentication, device and TV login, age assurance, and consent management all the way to deleting an account if so desired — across web, mobile, living-room, and gaming platforms. The core challenge of this role is making access effortless for legitimate fans while making it hard for bad actors, all within a fast-moving global regulatory landscape.
In the role of Staff Product Manager, you will report to the Director of Partner Product Management, Security.
We are considering applicants for Dallas, Los Angeles, or San Francisco. This is a hybrid position, in-office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
What You’ll Do:
- Set the identity strategy. Define and drive the multi-year roadmap for authentication, authorization, and account management, and align leadership across Product, Engineering, Security, and Legal behind it.
- Modernize authentication. Ship modern flows such as passkeys/FIDO2, risk-based MFA, social and SSO login, and streamlined device-code login for TVs and consoles.
- Improve account lifecycle. Make it easier for users to create, access, recover, and manage accounts and profiles across devices, including household and profile management.
- Fight fraud and abuse. Partner with Security and Trust & Safety to detect and prevent account takeovers, credential stuffing, bot sign-ups, and payment abuse — without adding friction for good users.
- Lead age assurance and youth safety. Own the product approach to age verification, parental controls, and compliance with youth-protection laws (e.g., COPPA, UK Online Safety Act, US state age-assurance laws).
- Protect privacy. Ensure compliance with global privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, and others) and give users clear control over their data and consent.
- Ground decisions in research and data. Run user research and analyze funnel data to find pain points in access flows, and use those insights to reduce access-related churn.
- Define and own the metrics. Establish success metrics for login success, recovery completion, MFA adoption, fraud rates, and support contact volume, and report on them regularly.
- Collaborate cross-functionally. Work daily with Engineering, Design, Security & Trust, Legal, Data, and Customer Experience to launch solutions that build user trust and platform integrity.
What Success Looks Like:
- Higher sign-up-to-subscription conversion and higher login success rates across all platforms.
- Fewer account-related support contacts (login, recovery, ATO, email changes) and lower access-driven churn.
- Reduced account takeover and fraud rates, with no measurable increase in friction for legitimate users.
- Full, ongoing compliance with global privacy and age-assurance regulations as they evolve.
About You
We get excited about candidates, like you, because...
- You have 8+ years of product management experience, including 3+ years owning identity, authentication, account security, or trust & safety products for a consumer platform at scale.
- You have working knowledge of authentication protocols and standards (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, FIDO2/WebAuthn) and MFA approaches.
- You have experience with fraud prevention and bot mitigation, and a track record of balancing security against usability.
- You have experience shipping identity or account experiences across multiple platforms (web, mobile, and ideally TV or console).
- You have strong product judgment: you can make and defend trade-offs between security, user experience, compliance, and business goals.
- You have strong analytical skills, with experience defining KPIs and using funnel and behavioral data to drive decisions.
- You have excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex security and identity concepts to executives and non-technical partners.
A plus if you have:
- Experience in streaming, gaming, or subscription consumer businesses.
- Hands-on experience with age assurance, parental controls, or youth-safety regulation.
- Familiarity with CIAM platforms (e.g., Auth0, Okta, Cognito) and bot-mitigation vendors, including build-vs-buy decisions.
- Experience with device-code or QR login flows for living-room platforms.
- Experience working with global teams and launching in regulated international markets.
