About the role

Deel IT manages the full device lifecycle for Deels global workforce: procurement, shipping, device support, and returns across 100+ countries and a network of 50+ couriers and suppliers. Its a high-stakes internal operation where SLAs are real, complexity is everywhere, and the cost of failure is visible across the whole company.

We have two core platforms in place that handle real, global complexity across all 100+ countries: an internal admin platform and a supplier platform that manages our network of 50+ couriers and vendors. These platforms touch warehouse operations, logistics, procurement, and manage the full marketplace coordination. They work. They handle scale.

The next phase is twofold. First, we automate the manual workflows that still exist on top of and around these platforms. We digitize and AI-ify our current processes so humans arent doing work that could be automated. Second, we expand what suppliers can do through the platform itself, so they can take on more complexity and we can offload more work to them. Right now they want to do more but dont have the platform structure to make it happen. Thats the opportunity.

Were hiring a Staff PM to own the Operations product surface and drive that automation and expansion agenda.

The scope is large. The engineering capacity is there (growing from 8 to 18). The operational complexity is real. Whats needed is someone who can look at the sprawling landscape (logistics, device lifecycle, IT support, supplier networks, SLAs, platforms, data) and come back with an opinionated roadmap about what automation moves the needle most, how to unlock supplier capacity, what ships next, and why.

You wont be handed a pre-defined backlog to execute. You wont get heavy direction on what to build. Youll operate with real autonomy. Youll dig into data, talk to ops teams and suppliers, validate assumptions, think in systems, and come back with a clear point of view. Then youll drive it.

This is a high-ownership role in a high-pace environment. Its also one of the highest-leverage roles in Deel IT: what you ship directly unblocks dozens of people and saves the company real money.

What youll do

Own the Operations product surface with real autonomy.

You wont get a roadmap handed to you. Youll have access to smart, generous people (engineering, operations, finance, suppliers) who can answer your questions and give you context. But they wont give you the map. Youll need to dig, synthesise, validate, and come back with a clear point of view. Heres what that looks like in practice:

• Diagnose and prioritise relentlessly. Youll pull data from multiple sources: the engineering backlog, logistics performance, IT support ticket patterns, supplier feedback, financial impact. Youll synthesise it into a ruthless roadmap: what moves the needle, what can ship fast, whats worth the engineering effort, and whats not. Youll own this roadmap and defend it when people push back. Youll iterate it based on what you learn.

• Drive automation that removes humans from the loop. Your north star is shipping features that automate manual workflows and reduce human-in-the-loop steps across operations and supplier networks. Examples include shipping label generation (end-to-end), real-time tracking aggregation, device condition documentation, IT support ticket routing and resolution, and supplier onboarding workflows. Youll scope each one, ship it, measure it, and move to the next.

• Own the metrics that matter. Define what good looks like across on-time device delivery rate, IT support ticket response time, revenue per operations headcount, and revenue per engineering headcount. Youll build dashboards and early-warning systems that surface SLA risk before it becomes a crisis. Youll track them live and close the gaps relentlessly.

• Translate complexity into clean, well-scoped work. Youll sit between four worlds: frontline operations (messy, data-rich, constraint-heavy); engineering (clear-headed, velocity-focused); suppliers (incentive-aligned but distributed); and finance (outcome-focused). Youll take the complexity and translate it into clean, well-scoped work that engineering can execute fast. Youll maintain a tight feedback loop so you learn quickly when youre wrong.

• Use AI actively in your day-to-day. Not as a nice-to-have. As your default. Research, synthesis, data analysis, decision documents, spotting patterns in unstructured feedback. Youll be fluent in prompt engineering and youll show it, not just talk about it.

What were looking for

Essential

• 6+ years of product management experience, with at least 1 year at Staff PM level or equivalent senior IC role. Youve owned a significant problem space end-to-end. Youve shipped under pressure. Youve made calls with incomplete information and learned from them.

• Builder mindset, not project manager. (This is non-negotiable.) You take a messy, loosely-defined problem space and solve it. Youre comfortable without a roadmap. You ask "why?" and "what are we really trying to achieve?" and you come back with a crisp point of view. You thrive on autonomy. You dont need to be told what to do. You dig to understand what matters. Youre impatient with ambiguity and you have a bias toward clarity.

• Fast-iterative mentality. Youve operated in fast-scaling environments where youve seen the cost of slow decisions and the leverage of fast feedback loops. You ship, measure, learn, adjust. Youre comfortable with 80% certainty and a strong conviction. You iterate based on data, not consensus.

• Systems thinker. You see how teams, tools, and processes connect. You find leverage points others miss. You think about unintended consequences. You optimise for the whole system, not the piece in front of you. When youre looking at a logistics problem, you see how it connects to IT support, supplier incentives, and engineering velocity.

• Execution-led and detail-oriented. Youre close to the work. You move fast without losing quality. You drive delivery. Youre comfortable holding detail and youre impatient with fluff. You communicate with clarity and conciseness: you get to the point fast.

• Data fluent and self-sufficient. Youre comfortable with SQL, data platforms, and spreadsheets. You pull your own analysis. You dont wait for someone else to tell you what the data says. You build your own views. Numbers dont faze you.

• Active AI user. You use AI tools in your day-to-day work: research, synthesis, writing, analysis, decision-making. You can show concrete examples of how you use it, not just describe it conceptually. Youre curious about new tools and you experiment with them.

Nice-to-have

• Experience with supplier networks or platform product work where the "customer" is internal or distributed (not a consumer-facing product).

• Experience scaling a product or business through hypergrowth. Youve felt scaling pain. Youve had to rethink architectures, processes, and teams as youve grown.

About Deel IT culture — what this role demands

This is a high-ownership, high-autonomy role in a team that moves at pace. Before you apply, make sure you recognise yourself in this:

• You self-direct and own your vertical like a founder. Theres no roadmap handed to you. You dig, validate, think, and decide. You come back with a clear point of view. Youre the CEO of your area.

• You move fast with conviction. Youre comfortable making calls with incomplete information. You iterate based on data, not consensus. Youre impatient with process. You bias toward action.

• You think in systems and youre comfortable with trade-offs. You manage across logistics, device lifecycle, IT support, and supplier networks. You see how decisions in one area ripple into others. You make trade-offs explicitly and you can defend them.

• Youre intellectually rigorous and you invite challenge. You back your decisions with data, not gut feel. Youre impatient with hand-waving. You challenge assumptions (yours and others) and youre comfortable being challenged back. You change your mind when the evidence warrants it.

• You communicate with clarity and youre impatient with ambiguity. You get to the point fast. You distil complex problems into clear language. Long-windedness bothers you.

• Youre comfortable operating with sparse direction. You wont have a manager who tells you what to do every day. You wont get hand-held. You will have access to smart people who can answer questions and give you context. Youll use that to self-direct.
