Staff Reliability Engineer
About ALSO.
We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.
ALSO is looking for a Staff Reliability Engineer to play a key role in developing and leading the reliability of multiple electric mobility vehicles over the full development cycle.
What You'll Do
Establish reliability targets and metrics for new product development, covering actuators, batteries, drive units, PCBAs, chassis, and various low-voltage electronic systems
Develop new reliability test procedures and specifications, such as highly accelerated life testing and environmental testing, to demonstrate reliability
Apply various acceleration models to reliability test design to accurately predict product lifetime under accelerated stress conditions
Prepare concise, detailed test plans, analyze test reports, and provide updates on testing campaigns
Guide engineering teams on failure modes, typical countermeasures for reliability failures, and design guidelines, providing risk analysis to inform design decisions
Monitor field performance and identify trends in failure
Lead and facilitate FMEAs with cross-functional teams and develop design verification plans from these activities
What You'll Bring
Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline or equivalent, with 5+ years of industry experience in a reliability engineering role
Technical knowledge of one or more aspects related to PCBA reliability, energy storage systems, drive units, and chassis components
Working knowledge of a coding language, preferably Python, and statistical software for reliability such as JMP, the ReliaSoft suite, or MATLAB
Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques such as SEM, CT, X-ray, EDS, and TDR
Experience with instrumentation for data collection and testing, such as thermocouples, strain gauges, and accelerometers
Experience deploying reliability testing guidelines and developing new testing methods
Ability to use FEA software (e.g., Ansys Sherlock) for product life prediction in creation of reliability tests
The salary for this position ranges from $220,000 - $255,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.
