STAFF RESIDENT ENGINEER (Hybrid)
Job Overview
The Staff Resident Engineer is TE Connectivity’s senior on-site technical interface to the customer. This role combines deep product expertise with strong knowledge of engineering systems, specifications, validation, change-management, and issue-resolution processes. The engineer leads customer support from early concept and product selection through validation, launch, production, and corrective action, coordinating TE Engineering, Quality, Project Management, Product Management, and Sales to deliver timely, technically sound solutions.
Job Requirements
- Serve as TE’s senior technical liaison to the customer, building trusted relationships with DREs, technical specialists, validation engineers, manufacturing teams, and other key customer stakeholders.
- Apply expert knowledge of low-voltage terminals and connectors—including product selection, application requirements, crimping, sealing, mating performance, packaging, manufacturing, and validation—to solve complex customer problems and identify new opportunities.
- Navigate customer systems and processes for specifications, drawings, part releases, engineering changes, validation plans and reports, issue tracking, and corrective-action closure; maintain accurate status and documentation.
- Support customer during assembly-plant trials, launches, and production, including problem definition, root-cause investigation, containment, corrective action, and customer communication.
- Coordinate cross-functional TE teams to deliver prompt, aligned responses and influence product, validation, and application decisions without direct authority.
- Occasional travel to customer engineering locations, supplier sites, TE facilities, and vehicle assembly plants as required
Role requirements
- 7+ years of automotive engineering experience, including substantial hands-on experience with low-voltage terminal and connector systems.
- Strong understanding of terminal and connector design, application, validation, manufacturing, and common failure modes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Proven ability to lead complex technical investigations, manage competing priorities, make sound independent decisions, and communicate effectively with customer and internal stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience supporting GM and working knowledge of GM engineering systems and workflows for specifications, releases, engineering changes, validation, launches, and issue closure.
- Experience with wire harnesses and vehicle assembly.
- Experience in the Resident Engineering field.
- High-voltage terminal and connector experience.
- 3D design software experience.
