Staff Software Engineer Android
You will own major parts of Android SDKs and deliver scalable, reliable mobile features from discovery and design through implementation, release, and iteration based on user feedback. You will set Android architectural direction, improve engineering foundations and tooling, partner with Product, Design, Backend, and QA, and provide technical guidance to other engineers.
Responsibilities
- Own the design and delivery of high-impact Android features and platform improvements from concept through production release
- Drive Android architecture decisions, including modularization, navigation, state management, and dependency injection, and document tradeoffs clearly
- Build and maintain clean, testable code using Kotlin, Jetpack, Coroutines, Flow, and MVVM or similar practices
- Partner with Product and Design to scope work into iterative milestones
- Ensure app quality through testing, code reviews, crash monitoring, performance profiling, and release readiness
- Collaborate with Backend and API teams to define contracts, handle edge cases, and deliver resilient user experiences
- Improve developer velocity through tooling, CI/CD, build-time improvements, and shared mobile foundations
- Mentor other engineers through technical guidance, pairing, and feedback in reviews and design discussions
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional Android development experience delivering production mobile applications at scale
- Strong Kotlin proficiency and deep experience with modern Android frameworks, including Jetpack Compose or Views, Lifecycle, ViewModel, and Navigation
- Ability to design and evolve Android application architecture for maintainability, scalability, and long-term team productivity
- Understanding of Android concurrency and asynchronous patterns, including Coroutines, Flow, threading, and structured concurrency
- Experience integrating REST APIs, handling offline and poor-network scenarios, and building data layers with SQLite and caching
- Experience with unit testing, UI testing, release practices, and Play Store deployment
- Ability to lead technical projects end-to-end and drive decisions through ambiguity
- Computer Science or Engineering degree, or equivalent practical experience
