About the Role

Cipher is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to help design and build our cryptographic governance platform. You'll work directly with our Head of Engineering across our core platform and sensor microservices, helping federal and commercial customers find and fix cryptographic vulnerabilities ahead of NIST's post-quantum deadlines. This is an early, high-ownership role: you'll shape architecture, set engineering standards, and see your work land in production environments at regulated enterprises and defense organizations.

What You’ll Build

Back-end services and APIs for:

  • Cryptographic object discovery – keys, certificates, algorithms, and protocols across networks, endpoints, and codebases
  • Cryptographic inventorying – data normalization, de-duplication, and association into a unified inventory
  • Vulnerability assessment & prioritization – flagging legacy/deprecated algorithms and building frameworks that help customers prioritize remediation

Front-end components for:

  • Data visualization – dashboard widgets summarizing findings across cryptographic inventories
  • Inventory exploration – searchable, filterable views for drilling into discovered cryptographic objects and their relationships
  • Reporting – exportable views that track remediation progress and post-quantum readiness for auditors and leadership

CI/CD pipelines to:

  • Automate testing across services
  • Secure end-to-end deployment workflows

Required Experience

  • 5+ years building production software services
  • Strong proficiency in Golang and Python; comfortable in TypeScript and Bash
  • DevOps experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
  • Database experience with PostgreSQL; familiarity with MongoDB and Redis
  • Familiarity with React and Node, and with both Linux and Windows environments

Who You Are

  • A clear communicator who can explain technical decisions to teammates and customers
  • Willing to push back and contribute on critical decisions
  • High integrity and a strong sense of ownership
  • Motivated to build a market-leading product from an early stage

Preferred Additional Experience

  • GitHub Actions and ArgoCD
  • Observability and security engineering
  • AI development and integration (including MCP)
  • ServiceNow API
  • PKI, TLS, and digital certificates
  • macOS
  • Additional DevOps depth
