Role Overview:
Coupang Media team is a key team in the Ads foundation organization. Help us build the data engine behind Coupang Ads & other media related revenue sources. Our team provides the foundational platform that manages and serves all data used in our ads-serving pipeline.
We’re looking for backend experts passionate about big data and high-concurrency systems. You’ll be tasked with building a scalable, resilient, and low-latency infrastructure from the ground up, turning massive data streams into real-time business impact.
What You Will Do:
- Architect and scale high-throughput data processing pipelines and serving infrastructure critical to real-time ad delivery.
- Engineer our next-generation data platform, focusing on self-service capabilities that empower cross-functional teams to deploy data into production with minimal friction.
- Bridge the gap between business strategy and technical execution, translating complex ads logic into highly distributed, efficient, and resilient system architectures.
- Design and implement scalable, high-performance workflow infrastructure using technologies such as Temporal and Netflix Conductor.
- Benchmark platform performance, collect and analyze system metrics, and publish performance reports.
- Ensure platform reliability and uptime, targeting high availability through robust monitoring and alerting systems.
- Estimate system capacity and provision clusters to support diverse customer workloads.
- Monitor production systems, respond to incidents, and proactively address root causes to improve operational excellence.
- Analyze and contribute to open-source platform components and codebases.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure platform extensibility and support innovation.
What we are looking for
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or a closely related field
- 6 years of experience in backend software development
- Experience working in cloud environments, particularly AWS
- Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining highly available, distributed systems
- Proven track record of taking ownership and successfully delivering results
- Experience building ads serving system.
- Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with technical and non- technical stakeholders across all levels of the organization
- Ability to work in multi-cultural, cross functional team
- Experience building highly scalable and low latency systems in a fast paced, team-oriented environment
- Experience leading a project of building large scale data serving platform
- Proficiency in Java and the Spring Frameworks
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability and desire to drive solid design work on multi-threaded/multi-process, distributed system
- A passion to explore, improve, automate and optimize distributed systems and tools
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate in cross-functional, fast-paced environments
- Ability to think outside-the-box and challenge conventional wisdoms
- Experience with advertising systems/Search advertising/Advertising Marketplace/Display advertising/Ad Server
- Experience working with AWS (Amazon web services)
- Familiarity with Agile development practices, including code reviews, testing, and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience managing mission-critical services with high throughput and low latency
- Experience working in fast pacing environment
- Experience with Spark/Hive/Redis//Kafka
- Strong communication skills for interfacing with technical teams, business stakeholders, and end users
Pay & Benefits
Our compensation reflects the cost of living across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.
The base pay for Staff position ranges from $164/year to $282/year. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
