About the Role

Nu is building crypto products that give customers real financial access — moving assets, interacting with blockchain networks, and managing digital assets safely and simply. As a Staff Software Engineer on our crypto product team, you will combine deep understanding of blockchain protocols with strong product instincts to decide what we build, how it works technically, and how it should feel for the customer.

You'll work hands-on with onchain data, transaction flows, signing and custody integrations, asset movement, and smart-contract interactions — not to build these as isolated platform pieces, but to turn them into product capabilities customers actually use. You'll partner closely with product and business stakeholders to shape what Nu builds, and with the core crypto team to integrate with the protocol- and security-level building blocks they provide.

You'll be responsible for

  • Understand blockchain protocols deeply enough to know how to integrate with them and what they make possible for customers — then turn that into product decisions.

  • Build and evolve product-facing capabilities involving onchain data, transaction execution, signing and custody integrations, asset movement between wallets and entities, and smart-contract interactions.

  • Partner with product and business stakeholders to define what crypto experiences Nu should offer, weighing technical feasibility, customer value, and business tradeoffs.

  • Integrate with core crypto team systems (custody, key management, security primitives), owning the product and integration layer while collaborating closely on lower-level implementation details when needed.

  • Design APIs and abstractions that let your team and others ship crypto features quickly without reproducing protocol complexity or weakening controls.

  • Establish standards for reliability, observability, data integrity, and production readiness.

  • Lead critical design reviews, major-incident response, and root-cause analysis for the systems you own.

  • Mentor senior engineers and raise the bar for technical and product judgment on the team.

We are looking for a person who has

Required

  • A track record of Staff-level impact building customer-facing products or platforms, ideally with meaningful technical depth in a specific domain.

  • Deep experience with distributed systems at scale, including transaction processing, eventual consistency, failure handling, high availability, and production operations.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical understanding of protocols or infrastructure into product decisions and customer-facing features.

  • Production ownership of regulated or high-stakes financial movement, blockchain integrations, or adjacent money-moving infrastructure.

  • Experience designing security-sensitive systems using threat modeling, explicit trust boundaries, defensive architecture, and rigorous review processes.

  • Comfort partnering with product and business stakeholders as a peer in shaping what gets built, not just how.

  • Experience leading complex production incidents and improving systems and operating practices afterward.

  • Strong influence, communication, and mentorship skills, including the ability to align teams without relying on reporting authority.

Nice to have

  • Experience integrating with multiple blockchain networks or protocol families.

  • Experience shaping product or business strategy for crypto or digital-asset offerings.

  • Familiarity with HSMs, secure enclaves, or hardware-backed key-management systems.

  • Experience in regulated fintech, banking, payments, or institutional digital-asset infrastructure.

  • Experience reviewing smart-contract security or integrating with DeFi protocols in production.
