Financial Integrity team at Rippling is on a mission to safeguard the integrity of every financial transaction across Rippling products. We operate at the intersection of finance and engineering, ensuring that all money movements across Rippling are accurate, compliant and reliable.
The team is structured into four key focus areas:
- Financial Crime Compliance - Ensure all Rippling financial products meet regulatory requirements across jurisdictions, maintaining strict adherence to government regulations.
- Credit Risk - Actively identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to fraud activities, credit exposure and financial anomalies across critical products like Payroll , EOR, COR and Spend, etc.
- KYC & Onboarding - Deliver a secure and seamless onboarding experience through strong KYC (Know Your Customer/Business) compliance and automation, ensuring only verified and trustworthy entities enter our ecosystem.
- Financial Integration Platform - Build and scale a robust integration platform that connects financial systems, internal products and external partners, enabling secure data exchange, streamlined operations and faster product expansion.

What you will do
- Architect and evolve the systems that power Financial Integrity, ensuring Rippling’s financial transactions are accurate, reliable, secure, compliant, and fully auditable.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership across design, implementation, code reviews, testing, deployment, and production operations.
- Bring a founder’s mindset to identify opportunities, challenge conventional approaches, and drive innovation across risk, compliance, KYC/Onboarding and financial operations.
- Define the long-term technical vision and roadmap for the team, partnering with product, engineering, operation team, and risk/compliance leaders to shape priorities and outcomes.
- Design and build scalable distributed systems that support high transaction volumes, automated controls and failure recovery.
- Raise the engineering bar for system correctness, observability, security, operational excellence, and regulatory readiness.
- Lead complex, cross-functional initiatives from early technical exploration through successful delivery, proactively identifying risks and resolving ambiguity.
- Develop automated solutions that improve operational efficiency, reduce manual intervention and enable the organization to scale with the business.
- Mentor engineers and influence technical decisions across teams through architecture reviews, design guidance and strong engineering practices.
- Foster a culture of ownership, high standards and measurable customer and business impact.
What you will need
We're looking for a Staff Engineer who has a strong technical-foundation, and thrives in high-ownership environments.
- Experience: 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant responsibility for defining architecture and leading complex, cross-team technical initiatives.
- Technical Expertise: Deep hands-on experience building backend platforms, distributed systems, and high-throughput data or transaction-processing pipelines.
- Financial Systems: Experience designing systems where correctness, reliability, security, auditability, and regulatory compliance are critical. Experience with payments, ledgers, risk, or compliance systems is preferred.
- Architecture and Scalability: Proven ability to design scalable systems, make sound architectural trade-offs, and establish a long-term technical direction while addressing immediate business needs.
- Technical Leadership: Ability to lead through influence, raise engineering standards, guide design and code reviews, and mentor engineers without direct management responsibility.
- Execution: Strong track record of translating a technical vision into clear milestones, managing risks and dependencies, and driving complex initiatives to successful outcomes.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Proven ability to partner effectively with product, engineering, finance, operations, risk, and compliance stakeholders across regions and time zones.
- Communication: Ability to communicate technical concepts, architectural decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
