This position is for a Staff Software Engineer within GoDaddy’s engineering organization, concentrating on developing scalable, fault-tolerant systems and promoting technical excellence across various teams and projects.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader at the division level. You will impact system design and architecture, as well as how engineering is carried out across teams. This position suits engineers who excel in uncertain environments, like tackling difficult technical problems, and can provide clarity, structure, and delivery for large projects.
Our teams focus on greenfield and open-ended projects that require firm technical ownership, architectural vision, and collaboration across functions. You will assist in establishing engineering standards, support teams through mentoring, and create systems that boost reliability, scalability, and developer efficiency organization-wide.
This role is important for encouraging innovation throughout the engineering organization. It includes promoting AI-assisted development workflows, modern cloud-native methods, and reusable platform features that speed up development across teams.
What you'll get to do...
Technical Execution & Delivery
- Lead delivery of complex engineering initiatives while driving predictable execution and long-term technical quality
- Architect and implement highly available, fault-tolerant distributed systems using AWS, PostgreSQL/Aurora, and MongoDB
- Architect and lead greenfield projects from concept to production, bringing structure to ambiguous problem spaces
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across multiple systems and services while improving operational learning across teams
- Evaluate emerging technologies, cloud services, and engineering practices to improve platform scalability, reliability, and efficiency
Architecture & System Design
- Lead architecture and design reviews for complex cross-team systems and platform capabilities
- Drive technical decisions balancing scalability, reliability, extensibility, operational excellence, and cost efficiency
- Establish engineering standards and guidelines across teams within the organization
- Build systems with strong observability practices using cloud-native monitoring, logging, and tracing solutions
- Identify technical risks early and proactively drive mitigation strategies before they impact production systems
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
- Serve as a reliable technical consultant and subject matter expert for various teams and projects
- Mentor engineers across levels on architecture, system design, engineering guidelines, and career development
- Lead agile ceremonies and drive continuous improvement initiatives across teams
- Foster a strong culture of ownership, accountability, quality, and engineering excellence
- Contribute to the broader engineering community through internal tech talks, working groups, and knowledge sharing
AI Integration & Innovation
- Promote the use of AI-assisted engineering workflows throughout development, testing, documentation, and architecture methods
- Build reusable AI/ML-enabled platforms and engineering patterns that accelerate team productivity
- Promote experimentation with emerging technologies and scalable engineering solutions
- Help establish secure and effective guidelines for AI-assisted software development across teams
Your experience should include...
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience building production-grade, internet-scale systems
- Strong proficiency in modern backend technologies including GoLang, Python, and Node.js
- Deep hands-on AWS experience across services such as EKS, ECS, Fargate, Lambda, S3, SQS/SNS, RDS/Aurora, and IAM
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL/Aurora and MongoDB including schema design, indexing, and performance optimization at scale
- Verified skill in developing and maintaining distributed, highly available, fault-tolerant systems
- Experience deploying observability and monitoring solutions using tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog
- Experience working with Infrastructure-as-Code solutions like Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation
- Hands-on experience integrating AI/ML tooling or LLM-powered capabilities into production engineering workflows
- Strong Agile/Scrum expertise with experience driving engineering process improvements across teams
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, greenfield environments while driving technical direction and execution
- Demonstrated technical leadership influencing projects, teams, and engineering outcomes beyond individual ownership
