Staff Software Engineer
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer based in India.
This is a senior technical leadership role focused on building scalable, reliable, and high-quality software systems in a cloud-native SaaS environment. You will contribute across the full application lifecycle, from architecture and design through development, deployment, monitoring, and production support. The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, code and design reviews, mentoring, and engineering standards. You will work across backend and frontend technologies, with a strong emphasis on C#, modern JavaScript frameworks, APIs, databases, testing, and cloud infrastructure. You will also help drive an API-first approach and improve system performance, observability, and resilience. The position offers the opportunity to influence strategic product decisions while collaborating closely with engineering, product, design, and other cross-functional teams.
Accountabilities

Lead software design and code reviews, establish development standards, and contribute to technical decisions that support strategic product goals.

Participate throughout the application lifecycle, including architecture, coding, debugging, testing, deployment, maintenance, and production support.

Build scalable, reusable, and maintainable software using C#, JavaScript/TypeScript technologies, modern frontend frameworks, REST APIs, and cloud-native practices.

Develop and maintain full-stack application components, including UI, application services, data layers, and reusable libraries.

Champion an API-first approach, ensuring integrations are secure, scalable, extensible, and performant.

Troubleshoot complex technical issues, optimize system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements across applications and infrastructure.

Design and maintain unit, integration, and UI automation testing strategies to improve product quality and test coverage.

Work with SQL and NoSQL databases and caching mechanisms, including data structure design, optimization, and performance improvements.

Build and deploy applications using Kubernetes and support cloud-native infrastructure and observability practices, including OpenTelemetry.

Monitor system health and participate in on-call rotations, responding to incidents and resolving critical production issues with minimal disruption.

Collaborate with developers, designers, system administrators, product teams, customers, and vendors to identify requirements and deliver effective solutions.

Mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance and training, and support the professional development of the wider engineering team.

Improve development tools, code quality, test coverage, and engineering processes while maintaining clear technical documentation and proactive communication.

8+ years of relevant software development experience, or 6+ years with an advanced degree; the broader role profile typically targets around 10 years of experience.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Strong programming expertise in C# with proven full-stack development experience.

Strong experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React and Angular, together with HTML and CSS.

In-depth understanding of the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and production operations.

Experience developing and deploying applications on cloud-native infrastructure and with Kubernetes.

Advanced knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, data structures, caching mechanisms, and database performance optimization.

Strong understanding and practical application of REST API best practices, including security, scalability, integration, and performance.

Advanced experience developing unit, integration, and UI automation tests.

Experience with production monitoring, troubleshooting, incident resolution, proactive reliability improvements, and measurement tracking.

Experience with OpenTelemetry or comparable observability practices.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and deliver against deadlines.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide clear technical input to engineering and cross-functional stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within Agile teams and across engineering, product, and broader organizational initiatives.

Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership is highly valuable.
