Engineer
We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help shape the performance, quality, and technical evolution of one of Legend's core customer-facing comparison platforms, working closely with Product and Engineering.
The Role
You'll lead optimisation initiatives across areas like Core Web Vitals, application architecture and platform performance, while also delivering new features that support our roadmap — balancing hands-on technical leadership with day-to-day delivery.
Your Impact
- Drive technical evolution – improve performance, scalability and maintainability across our comparison products
- Lead performance initiatives – focus on Core Web Vitals, page performance, caching strategies and technical architecture
- Partner cross-functionally – work closely with Product and Engineering to deliver high-quality features against key roadmaps
- Own technical audits – identify ways to reduce complexity and modernise legacy systems
- Champion best practices – through hands-on development, thoughtful code review and mentoring that raises the bar across the team
What You'll Bring
Essential
- Experience building and maintaining large-scale, customer-facing web applications
- Strong PHP experience alongside modern JavaScript frameworks such as React
- Solid grounding in web performance — Core Web Vitals, page rendering, caching, and application architecture
- Experience running technical audits and turning findings into practical engineering improvements
- A product engineering mindset that balances technical quality with customer and business outcomes
- Comfort working within legacy systems while incrementally simplifying architecture
- Confidence challenging technical approaches and working through the right solution with stakeholders
Bonus Points For
- Knowledge of SEO-focused or high-traffic content platforms
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and observability tooling
