Staff Software Engineer - RCM (Remote)

Designs and leads the architecture of Rula’s Revenue Cycle Management payments systems, building scalable, distributed services to handle claims, payments, and revenue workflows for mental healthcare.

About the Role

We are hiring a Staff Software Engineer to lead the architecture and technical vision of Rula’s Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) Payments team. This role is pivotal in transforming how Rula handles complex payments, claims submission, and revenue workflows. You will design mission-critical systems that are not only scalable and robust but also serve as the backbone for Rula's business growth. You will partner with product and clinical stakeholders to solve ambiguous operational challenges, mentor a talented team of engineers, and drive a culture of technical excellence. The ideal candidate has deep experience in distributed systems and is excited about applying modern engineering practices to make high-impact mental healthcare accessible to all.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of designing and scaling complex, distributed systems in a production environment.

  • Expertise in backend distributed architecture (microservices, event-driven systems), and experience in full-stack engineering (e.g., TypeScript, React, Node.js) .

  • Demonstrated experience leading high-priority, cross-team technical initiatives from conception to delivery, including stakeholder management and navigating complex technical trade-offs.

  • Proven ability to mentor engineers, influence technical culture, and elevate team performance through code reviews and documentation.

  • Proficiency in leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) to optimize development velocity and code quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at startup / growth-stage companies

  • Experience with NodeJs, Typescript, Kafka, AWS or equivalent, React

  • Strong domain knowledge or ability to rapidly master financial/healthcare systems (HIPAA compliance, claims/payments).

  • High personal awareness, and growth mindset (for Software Engineer)
