Staff Engineer to architect and deliver telemetry infrastructure for Google Cloud's financial exchange platform, building systems like FairMon and BCC for ultra-low-latency networks and real-time trading fairness monitoring. Requires deep C++ expertise, distributed systems knowledge, and technical leadership experience.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $207000 - $301000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

  • Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
  • Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.
  • Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
  • Lead a high-impact engineering team to deliver state-of-the-art telemetry infrastructure for GCP’s financial exchange platform, ensuring technical and execution strategy is aligned with the critical performance and reliability objectives of the global financial services market.
  • Drive the overarching architecture and design of mission-critical systems, such as the Fairness Monitor (FairMon) and Butter Capture Collector (BCC), to provide deterministic telemetry for ultra-low-latency (ULL) networks and real-time fairness monitoring for institutional-grade trading workloads.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience programming in C++.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
  • 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with distributed systems and network infrastructure.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in C++, C, or Python or 6 years with an advanced degree.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience architecting, designing, and leading the development of large-scale distributed systems, with specialized experience in high-performance packet processing or low-latency network architectures.
  • Expertise with lower-level system programming, Linux internals, and datapath networking frameworks (e.g., eBPF/XDP, DPDK).
  • Track record of operating, debugging, and scaling mission-critical, high-throughput network telemetry and packet-ingestion systems.
