Front of House Associate

Full-Time | Non-Exempt | Shift

Schedule flexibility required, including evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as business needs require.

St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge is seeking a friendly, dependable, and detail-oriented Front of House Associate to create a welcoming shopping experience in our thrift store for our customers, the neighbors we serve, and our staff and volunteers. In this role, you will focus on accurate, honest cashiering, exceptional customer service, and keeping the sales floor clean, organized, and ready to shop.

Reporting to the Store Manager and Lead Front of House Associate, the Front of House Associate is often the first and last person our customers see. You will run the register, greet and help shoppers, prepare and stock merchandise, and help keep the store looking its best. Every sale in our store supports SVDP's programs for people in need. Through this work you will help carry out the mission of St. Vincent de Paul with dignity, compassion, and excellence.

What You'll Do

• Create a welcoming atmosphere through sincere, friendly, and helpful customer interactions.
• Process all transactions accurately, including vouchers, cash, and card payments, with proper documentation.
• Handle merchandise with care during checkout and bagging, and keep the point-of-sale area organized and clean.
• Answer phone inquiries promptly and professionally.
• Process returned merchandise according to established procedures.
• Help prepare merchandise by sorting, pricing, stocking, and creating appealing displays.
• Keep the sales floor organized, clean, and shoppable throughout business hours.
• Monitor and restock supplies such as shopping bags, hangers, receipt paper, and packaging materials.
• Sweep and mop floors, clean interior and exterior windows and doors on schedule, and clean display fixtures using the right methods for each surface.
• Pitch in wherever needed, including helping with donation processing.

Who We're Looking For

Required

• A friendly, service-minded person with a passion for serving the community and treating every customer with dignity and respect.
• Strong reading comprehension to understand and follow established procedures.
• Basic math skills and comfort with computers and standard retail applications.
• The ability to use retail equipment, including point-of-sale (POS) systems, barcode scanners, label printers, and tagging equipment, and to perform simple troubleshooting.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Respect for the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and the mission of St. Vincent de Paul.
• Someone willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Preferred

• A high school diploma or GED.

Physical Requirements

• Able to stand and walk for up to eight hours, with appropriate breaks.
• Able to use hands and arms to reach, grasp, and handle objects.
• Work is performed in both climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled retail and warehouse settings, with periodic exposure to outdoor weather.
