State General Manager of Sales
Who We Are
At Contour, we’re reshaping education, one student at a time.
Born from the frustration of students who knew the system could be better, we set out to build what we once wished existed: tutoring that actually works. Not generic classes. Not recycled notes. Not overpriced, overcrowded rooms with an out-of-touch teacher who couldn’t relate. But a complete ecosystem of tutoring, resources, and support, meticulously designed to help every student reach their full potential.
Since 2020, over 10,000+ students have trusted Contour to guide their academic journey, and we’ve grown to over 300+ team members. We’ve produced hundreds of 99+ ATARs, tutored the World-Record UCAT scorer, and placed more students into medical school than any school in Australia.
Our growth is a testament to the simple philosophy: Put the student first, always. Everything we design, from our world-class tutor-training programs to our purpose-built campuses, exists to help students master content faster, perform with confidence, and even rekindle the joy of learning.
Contour is a group of three brands united by one goal: to give every student the best chance to achieve their full potential:
- Contour Education: Reshaping how students master their high school subjects with small-group tutoring, structured resources, and 1-on-1 support across Maths, Science, and English.
- Contour Medprep: Reshaping medical preparation with a proven, step-by-step pathway through the UCAT, interviews, and admissions, led by a team of 100+ medical students.
- Contour TestPrep: Reshaping test preparation, starting with the selective entry exam, through rigorous tutoring, mock exams, and data-driven feedback to give students a decisive advantage.
This is Contour. Built by students, for students.
What You Will Do
You'll carry NSW's number personally at launch, then build a team of sales representatives that carries it without you.
- Owning the sales funnel: Run the NSW funnel end to end, enquiry through trial to enrolment, knowing the conversion rate at every stage. Act within the week when a stage drops, not at quarter end.
- Personal selling and team coaching: Carry the close yourself in the first two terms, then hire, coach and exit NSW sales reps against the central quality bar until each one can hit target unsupervised.
- Revenue and budget ownership: Own the NSW revenue number and manage the state budget, reporting honestly to the VP of Sales and Finance, and running spend within an agreed budget.
- Campus operations and staffing: Lead the Campus Leaders and local operations team, roster and cover tutors across NSW, and set class times to local school timetables.
- Local people and compliance: Handle classification, contracts, performance management and exits with the named P&C Business Partner, and be the face of Contour to NSW team members, students, families and schools.
- Central relationship management: Win dated NSW commitments from central teams on a shared scorecard, and manage site selection and leasing jointly with the central team.
- Renewal and relationship-led growth: Treat re-enrolment as a sales motion, and build the school, community and referral relationships that establish Contour's name in NSW.
What You Will Bring
- Recent personal selling: you've carried a quota in a consultative, high-trust sale and can take an end-of-trial conversation without warming up.
- Sales leadership through growth: you've owned a team number, hired and exited reps, and run the pipeline discipline that keeps a forecast honest.
- Proof you've coached past your own level: you can name reps you developed who now hit target without you in the room.
- Commercial and budget management: you own a revenue number, manage a budget fluently, and understand unit economics well enough to make real trade-offs.
- Multi-site build and operation: you've run several physical locations through site leaders while holding one consistent standard, and stood something up from the ground before.
- A relevant degree and a track record running a multi-site or geographic operation with a revenue and budget remit.
- Ideally, a start or scale-up phase behind you.
- Ownership and judgement under pressure: you spot gaps and close them, and make sound calls with incomplete information.
- Genuine care for students and team members, and an instinct for the experience that earns word of mouth.
- Sydney-based and willing to be on the ground.
- Flexibility to work weekends, particularly during enrolment peaks, and to work to campus opening hours rather than a standard 9-to-5.
Why You Will Love It
- Real ownership: you're building a state from the ground up, not maintaining someone else's system.
- A clear arc: the role is deliberately broad at launch and narrows to pure go-to-market leadership as NSW proves out, with an Operations lead eventually taking day-to-day off your plate.
- High-trust autonomy: you escalate when local and central priorities clash, rather than absorbing it quietly.
- A brand with proof behind it: hundreds of 99+ ATARs, the World-Record UCAT scorer, and more students placed into medical school than any school in Australia.
- Competitive salary: ($160,000–$200,000 AUD + super) plus a genuine path to grow the role as NSW scales.
