Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Certified Sterile Processing Tech, you will promote improved quality and patient safety in the OR by ensuring the efficient flow of the Sterile Processing department, performing routine tasks related to decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments and supplies. Every day you will operate and monitor sterilization equipment, maintain meticulous records in compliance with AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, and OSHA standards. You will also maintain your certification, monitor/instruct/mentor non-certified staff, and actively facilitate the department's preparation for survey/regulatory assessments, contributing to a culture of patient safety. To be successful in this role, you will be a Certified Sterile Processing Technician with meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of safety and compliance standards, and a commitment to ensuring quality and patient safety in the OR.
- Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, and wraps or packages supplies and instruments using proper techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of how items to be sterilized should be packaged in a manner that promotes successful sterilization.
- Understands the recommended practices for cleaning and care of surgical instruments and powered equipment and the device manufacturer's validated and written instructions for use.
- Understands that devices labeled as singleuse should not be reprocessed unless the FDA guideline for reprocessing of singleuse devices can be met.
- Sterilizes supplies and instruments using the prescribed method (e.g. steam, gas plasma (Sterrad).
- Operates washer/decontaminator per department policy and procedure.
Job Requirements
Required
- High School Diploma/G.E.D.
- CRCST or CSPDT Certification
Preferred
- Six (6) months of experience
