Strategic Account Manager

Discussion

Description

Do you take real pride in the craft of operational leadership — the kind that makes complex enterprise relationships feel effortless to the customer and unlocks the growth teammates can see but not always reach? Are you the person who anticipates issues before they surface, orchestrates internal resources with quiet mastery, and gets satisfaction from making the machine work? If your answers are yes, please read on.

As a Strategic Account Manager (SAM) at Pacific Rim Capital (PRC), you will be the day-to-day operational owner for a portfolio of PRC's most important Fortune 500 relationships. You will ensure existing business is flawlessly executed, coordinate internal resources across the company, build strong operational relationships with customer stakeholders, and partner with senior sales colleagues on account strategy — all in service of retention, portfolio performance, and continued customer growth.

This role offers a competitive base salary plus commission tied to account performance.

Our ideal candidate is a senior operations professional — detail-oriented, judgment-driven, and genuinely energized by the work of running complex accounts well. You are an exceptional listener, a trusted internal orchestrator, and someone who takes the customer experience personally.

About the Role

PRC is one of North America's largest independent providers of equipment financing and leasing solutions, with nearly $2 billion in assets under management. We finance material handling equipment (MHE), IT, warehouse automation, energy, and over-the-road vehicles for Fortune 500 clients across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Reporting to the VP of Asset Strategy, you will:

  • Own operational execution — serve as the day-to-day operational owner for assigned strategic accounts, ensuring a consistent, high-quality customer experience across every interaction.
  • Manage flow business end-to-end — coordinate funding requests, lease administration, renewals, and portfolio activities on established customer programs.
  • Coordinate internal resources — orchestrate work across PRC's sales, remarketing, opportunity management, lease administration, financial operations, and customer success functions to ensure seamless execution and timely issue resolution.
  • Build operational relationships — develop strong working relationships with customer operations, procurement, finance, fleet, and facility stakeholders that strengthen day-to-day engagement.
  • Anticipate customer needs — monitor utilization trends, upcoming capital projects, lease maturities, and portfolio performance to stay ahead of what the customer will need next.
  • Lead operational and business reviews — run account reviews, operational business reviews, and portfolio performance discussions, providing customers with actionable recommendations to improve fleet performance and total cost of ownership.
  • Improve continuously — identify opportunities to improve program efficiency, customer satisfaction, and portfolio performance through process improvements and operational recommendations.
  • Partner with sales on account strategy — work closely with senior sales colleagues to execute account strategies that increase retention, expand PRC's footprint within the customer, and strengthen PRC's strategic position.
  • Maintain institutional memory — keep comprehensive account plans, relationship maps, and customer activity records that support continuity, visibility, and effective succession planning.

What Success Looks Like

We do not leave success to guesswork. Here is the ramp:

First 30 days. Complete onboarding on PRC's products, asset classes, CRM, and pricing tools. Meet the VP of Asset Strategy, your sales colleagues, the internal partners you'll coordinate with, and key customer operational stakeholders on each assigned account. Absorb the account plan, program documentation, funded transaction history, and current portfolio position for every assigned account.

3 months. You are the day-to-day operational owner — the customer's routine requests, program flow, and administration are running smoothly through you. Regular correspondence cadence with client contacts is established. First operational business review or QBR delivered.

6 months. Operational excellence is the customer's experience — responsive, accurate, low-friction. You've surfaced at least one operational recommendation that improved program efficiency or portfolio performance. Risk indicators (competitive threats, org changes, declining engagement) are being surfaced early to your sales partners.

9 months. Account plans, relationship maps, and activity records are current and comprehensive. Regular cadence of QBRs and portfolio performance reviews is established with every assigned account, delivering actionable TCO and fleet-performance recommendations.

12 months. Assigned accounts show measurable improvement in retention, portfolio performance, and customer satisfaction. Your sales partners feel supported and unburdened; your customers feel operationally well-served. Ready to take on additional strategic accounts as capacity allows.

What You Bring

Required:

  • A 4-year degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 8-10 Senior-level experience in enterprise account management, customer success, or account operations — with a track record of owning strategic accounts at scale.
  • You reside within approximately a 90-minute commute of our Irvine, CA headquarters and can work onsite as required in our office-first environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to run complex operational execution across multiple internal functions in a large B2B environment.
  • Experience leading operational business reviews or QBRs with senior customer stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills — comfortable interpreting portfolio data, utilization trends, and lease-maturity schedules.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Working proficiency with CRM tools and account-planning frameworks.
  • Curiosity and continuous learning mindset with an eagerness to adopt and experiment with emerging AI tools and technologies
  • Critical thinking and judgment to effectively interpret AI-driven insights and make sound business decisions
  • Adaptability and openness to change in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven work environment

Strongly preferred:

  • Background in equipment leasing, equipment finance, capital equipment, or similar structured financial products.
  • Experience with Fortune 500 or investment-grade enterprise clients across multi-BU, multi-subsidiary, or multi-country organizations.
  • Experience partnering with sales in a joint account-ownership model.
  • Exposure to program administration, preferred-partner agreements, or long-term customer programs.
  • Experience with fleet, asset management, remarketing, or portfolio management functions.

Who thrives here:

Operationally rigorous. Detail-oriented and proactive — anticipates issues before the customer has to ask. A trusted internal orchestrator others want to work with. Judgment-driven — knows what to escalate and what to handle. Composed under pressure. Analytically curious. Coachable, a critical thinker, with a strong work ethic and a constant drive to improve. And, true to our values, someone who genuinely cares about clients, teammates, and long-term outcomes.

What’s In It For You

  • Competitive base salary plus commission. Compensation tied to account performance — you are paid on what you own. $125K - $150K base + variable commission.
  • Fortune 500 relationships. Work with some of the largest, most recognizable companies in North America — building durable relationships with operations, procurement, finance, fleet, and facility leaders.
  • A senior-level role with real authority. You are the day-to-day operational owner, working as a peer partner to senior sales colleagues — not a coordinator or a service resource.
  • A stable platform. $2B+ in assets under management, 30+ years of unbroken profitability, and the backing of Fuyo General Lease.
  • Cross-functional influence. Coordinate PRC's sales, remarketing, opportunity management, lease administration, financial operations, and customer success functions — you are the connective tissue of strategic account execution.
  • Report to a senior leader. The VP of Asset Strategy is invested in the operational excellence of PRC's strategic customer base and in your success in the seat.
  • Quality of life. Office-first with flexibility once fully integrated. Three weeks of PTO and 14.5 paid holidays a year.
  • Strong benefits. Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, an EAP, and a 401(k) with company match.
  • A culture that backs you. A modern Irvine office with sit-stand desks, daily snacks, and premium coffee and tea; monthly company events; quarterly team-building; and a volunteer culture committee.
