Discussion

Summary

Designs and analyzes lightweight composite structures for rockets using FEA and aerospace engineering principles to ensure safety and performance under extreme loads.

ABOUT

Agnikul Cosmos is a company incubated at IIT Madras and we build rockets that can take satellites up to 500 kg to Lower Earth Orbit (LEO). In May 2024, we successfully completed our maiden launch from our own launchpad (India's first private launchpad). The launch has proven all the new technologies developed by Agnikul and also earned recognition from Honourable Prime Minister of India.

We are seeking a highly skilled Composite Structural Analysis Engineer to join our Flight Structures team focused on rocket structures. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the design, analysis, and validation of composite materials and structures used in rocket systems. This position requires expertise in Strength of materials, Composite mechanics, Finite element analysis (FEA), and a strong understanding of aerospace engineering principles.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct detailed structural analysis of composite structures using FEA tool, ensuring compliance with safety and performance requirements under various loading conditions.

  • Perform linear static, buckling and thermo-structural analysis incorporating the material non-linearities. Explicit dynamic simulation experience is an added advantage.

  • Collaborate with design engineers to develop and optimise composite structures for weight reduction and performance enhancement.

  • Perform material property characterization and testing to support design validation and failure analysis.

  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate analysis results and recommendations to multidisciplinary teams.

  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to the development of best practices for composite material usage in rocket structures.

  • Stay abreast of advancements in composite materials and structural analysis methodologies relevant to aerospace applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Proficiency in finite element analysis software.

  • Strong understanding of composite mechanics, including laminate theory and failure criteria.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with rocket structure design and analysis.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes for composite materials and assembly of structures
