The Edwardsville, IL and St. Louis, MO offices of Modjeski and Masters are seeking students interested in a Structural Bridge Design Internship. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for students pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering to gain hands-on experience working with experienced bridge engineers on the design, analysis, and rehabilitation of transportation structures.


What We're Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
    • Coursework in structural analysis, structural design, steel design, reinforced concrete design, or related disciplines preferred.
  • Interest in structural engineering, bridge engineering, and transportation infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, OpenBridge Designer, STAAD, SAP2000, or other engineering software is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop technical skills under the guidance of experienced professionals.

What You'll Do

  • Assist bridge engineers with the design, analysis, inspection, and rehabilitation of highway, railroad, and pedestrian bridges.
  • Support the preparation of structural calculations, plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Assist in the development of bridge plans, details, and construction documents.
  • Perform engineering calculations and technical research under the supervision of licensed engineers.
  • Utilize engineering software and CAD platforms to support project development.
  • Participate in field visits and bridge inspections as needed.
  • Assist with data collection, report preparation, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including highway, geotechnical, and construction engineering professionals.
  • Gain exposure to bridge design standards, construction practices, and project delivery processes.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
