Structural Designer II

The Structural Designer II is responsible for independently developing detailed technical drawings, 3D models, and reinforcement layouts that support engineering, manufacturing, and construction processes. Reporting to the Structural Design Manager, this role applies advanced drafting and design knowledge to more complex projects while ensuring all design work meets company quality standards, engineering requirements, and project specifications.

The Structural Designer II partners closely with the Structural Design Manager, Engineering team, Project Managers, Production, and other cross-functional teams to deliver accurate and timely design solutions. This role also serves as a technical resource to junior designers by providing guidance, sharing best practices, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the Structural Design department.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Drafting

· Independently create detailed 3D models, reinforcement layouts, and technical drawings for a variety of precast concrete projects.

· Interpret engineering calculations, project specifications, architectural drawings, and contract documents to develop complete design packages.

· Develop reinforcement details and connections that meet engineering and manufacturing requirements.

· Review and coordinate designs to ensure constructability, manufacturability, and compliance with company standards.

· Develop and maintain standard drawings, templates, and design documentation to improve consistency and efficiency.

· Assist in resolving design challenges by collaborating with Engineering and Production teams.

Collaboration & Communication

· Partner with Engineering, Project Management, Production, and Sales to ensure design intent is accurately executed.

· Coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve design issues and maintain project schedules.

· Serve as a resource and mentor for Structural Designer I team members by providing technical guidance and support.

· Participate in project review meetings and contribute recommendations that improve project execution and design quality.

· Foster positive working relationships across departments to promote collaboration and effective communication.

Quality & Process Improvement

· Perform quality reviews of drawings and models to ensure compliance with company standards and project requirements.

· Identify opportunities to improve drafting standards, workflows, templates, and design processes.

· Support implementation of department best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

· Track engineering revisions and ensure design documentation is updated accurately and efficiently.

· Assist in developing standardized procedures that improve consistency and productivity.

Project Execution & Timeliness

· Manage multiple design assignments simultaneously while meeting project schedules and deadlines.

· Complete design packages with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

· Support catalog development, conceptual drawings, estimating requests, and special engineering projects as needed.

· Maintain organized project files, drawing revisions, assemblies, and design documentation.

· Communicate project status, potential delays, and design concerns proactively to management and project teams.

Key Results

· Design Quality: Produce accurate, complete, and high-quality drawings that minimize revisions and support efficient manufacturing and installation.

· Project Execution: Deliver assigned projects on schedule while effectively managing multiple priorities and competing deadlines.

· Technical Leadership: Serve as a knowledgeable resource for junior designers while promoting design consistency and best practices.

· Continuous Improvement: Contribute to improvements in drafting standards, design processes, and departmental efficiency.

· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build strong partnerships with Engineering, Production, Sales, and Project Management to ensure successful project execution.

Qualifications

· Minimum of 3–5 years of experience utilizing 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software in structural design, precast concrete, engineering, or a related technical field.

· Associate degree or certification in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.

· Precast concrete experience strongly preferred.

· Demonstrated ability to independently develop detailed structural drawings and reinforcement layouts.

· Strong understanding of engineering drawings, construction documents, and drafting standards.

· Excellent technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.

· Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to less experienced designers is preferred.
