Structural Steel Project Manager

Sentry is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Project Manager to oversee Division 5 structural steel and miscellaneous-metals projects from contract award through final completion. This position is responsible for coordinating detailing, procurement, fabrication, delivery, and field installation while maintaining project schedules, budgets, quality, and relationships.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review contracts, plans, specifications, addenda, and project scope.
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, schedule requirements, and potential project risks.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules, submittal logs, and procurement plans.
  • Coordinate shop drawings and engineering with steel detailers, engineers, architects, and general contractors.
  • Review shop drawings for scope, constructability, field dimensions, and contract compliance before submission or fabrication.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, approvals, design changes, and drawing revisions.
  • Release steel, hardware, joists, decking, stairs, railings, and other materials for purchasing and fabrication.
  • Coordinate fabrication priorities and schedules with shop personnel.
  • Plan deliveries and erection activities with field supervisors, erectors, crane providers, and general contractors.
  • Track labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and overall project costs.
  • Identify extra work and prepare pricing, change-order requests, and supporting documentation.
  • Review subcontractor and supplier proposals, purchase orders, and invoices.
  • Attend project meetings and provide regular schedule and progress updates.
  • Resolve fabrication, delivery, and field-installation issues promptly.
  • Monitor quality-control requirements and applicable project specifications.
  • Coordinate closeout documents, punch-list work, warranties, and final billing.
  • Maintain organized and complete project records.
  • Build professional working relationships with customers, vendors, engineers, and field personnel.
  • Manage multiple active projects and changing priorities.

Qualifications

  • Three or more years of structural steel, miscellaneous metals, construction project management, estimating, detailing, or fabrication experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Understanding of structural steel, joists, decking, stairs, railings, ladders, embeds, and miscellaneous metals.
  • Knowledge of common steel connections, welding, bolting, coatings, and fabrication processes.
  • Strong scheduling, budgeting, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, engineers, detailers, shop personnel, and field crews.
  • Experience managing RFIs, submittals, purchase orders, and change orders.
  • Comfortable using construction-management, estimating, scheduling, and Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Tekla, SDS2, or similar software is beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working for a structural steel fabricator or erector.
  • Familiarity with AISC standards and AWS welding requirements.
  • Experience managing projects from detailing through erection.

  • Strong financial understanding of project cost and profitability.

  • Ability to lead teams while holding people accountable for schedules and commitments.
  • Willingness to visit job sites and fabrication facilities as required.

Physical and Travel Requirements

  • Ability to work in an office, fabrication shop, and active construction-site environment.
  • Ability to walk jobsites, climb stairs and ladders, and access work areas safely.
  • Occasional lifting of plans, materials, or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Local or regional travel may be required.

Success in this position will be measured by:

  • Projects completed safely and on schedule.
  • Projects meeting or exceeding budgeted gross profit.
  • Accurate and timely submittals, purchasing, and fabrication releases.
  • Proper documentation and recovery of change-order work.
  • Minimal fabrication errors, field conflicts, and rework.
  • Timely billing and project closeout.
  • Strong customer satisfaction and communication.

Employment Status

Full-time, salaried position. Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, with additional hours or travel required based on project schedules.
