Student Custodian - 2nd Shift

POSITION SUMMARY

The Custodian is responsible for general housekeeping and cleaning of assigned areas. This role requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive motion, as well as the ability to safely use cleaning equipment and work with approved cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety guidelines. In this role, 2nd shift is generally defined as 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM.

We are looking for three current HU students to work up to 20 hours per week within the 2nd shift hours.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and deep cleaning of floors in offices and common areas.
• Washing accessible interior and exterior windows.
• Cleaning, sanitizing, and replenishing restrooms using established practices and procedures, including infection control and hygiene standards.
• Emptying, cleaning, and disposing of trash and recycling in accordance with established procedures.
• Cleaning, dusting, and wiping furniture, walls, machines and equipment.
• Following established safety procedures, including proper handling, storage, and use of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
• Attending to janitorial emergencies when necessary.

MINIMUM ROLE REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in housekeeping, commercial cleaning or related custodial work.
• Experience in safe handling of chemicals and cleaning agents.
• Experience in waste disposal and recycling protocols.
• Basic reading and comprehension (to follow instructions, labels, and safety data).
• Awareness of infection control and hygiene best practice.

WORK HOURS

The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. This position is assigned to 2nd shift, generally scheduled from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, though hours may vary based on operational needs. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
