Student Enrollment & Retention Coordinator
Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a community of high-performing public schools that utilizes a comprehensive approach to prepare students from preschool through high school for success in college and in life. We integrate academic rigor, community, family, and wellness to empower students to thrive in a culturally connected and changing world. Founded in 2000, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy students represent the neighborhood of MacArthur Park west of downtown Los Angeles, a community that is one of the most under-resourced and densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Currently, CNCA has six campuses that serve approximately 3,500 students from TK through 12th grade.

The Opportunity
Under the supervision of the School Operations Manager, and guidance from the Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment the Student Enrollment and Retention Coordinator, will implement a year-round, systems-driven enrollment and retention strategy across the full student recruitment funnel to ensure CNCA - Sandra Cisneros meets its enrollment targets. The Student Enrollment & Retention Coordinator owns day-to-day outreach, lead conversion, and feeder pipeline development, including relationships with preschool and daycare partners, while maintaining a sustained community presence in the neighborhood. The Student Enrollment and Retention Coordinator will apply current best practices in family engagement and community outreach to generate and convert inquiries into enrolled students.
Essential Functions
Strategy and Vision Setting Responsibilities
- Lead high-impact, community-based recruitment strategies to drive student enrollment
- Execute targeted, door-to-door canvassing and street-level outreach to directly engage prospective families and provide real-time enrollment support
- Identify and activate high-leverage community spaces (parks, local events) to expand visibility and generate new applications
- Build and sustain relationships with feeder preschools, daycares. Community organizations, and neighborhood partners to develop a continuous pipeline of prospective parents
- Serve as a visible ambassador of the Camino Nuevo – Sandra Cisneros neighborhood, strengthening trust and community presence
- Align weekly outreach efforts to enrollment goals, seasonal priorities, and campus-specific needs
Family Outreach & Relationship Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective families, responding via phone, text, email, and in-person interactions
- Conduct outbound phone banking and follow-up to move families through the enrollment pipeline
- Guide families through the application, lottery, and registration process with clarity and urgency
- Provide high-touch, relationship-centered support to ensure a positive family experience
- Partner with Parent Community Leaders (PCLs) to coordinate community outreach, canvassing, and family engagement efforts that build relationships with prospective families and support enrollment growth.
Enrollment Operations & Data Tracking
- Accurately enter and manage family data in SchoolMint or other enrollment systems
- Track outreach efforts, contact attempts, and conversion rates from interest to enrollment
- Maintain detailed records of leads, events, and recruitment outcomes
- Support document collection and ensure timely completion of enrollment requirements
- Generate weekly outreach and enrollment progress reports
Average Daily Attendance & Chronic Absenteeism
- Monitor and support Average Daily Attendance (ADA) goals
- Partner with site leadership team, registrar, and other site staff to identify attendance trends
- Conduct proactive family outreach for students approaching chronic absenteeism thresholds, and implement re-engagement strategies before patterns become chronic
- Maintain a targeted outreach list for students at risk of or experiencing chronic absenteeism
- Coordinate with school staff to connect families to supports, remove barriers to attendance, and sustain enrollment through relationship-based intervention
- Other duties as assigned
