Student Financial Services Counselor
Summary
Provides financial counseling to students and parents, processes payments, and manages student accounts to ensure balances are resolved each semester.
Essential Functions:
• Works closely with students and parents to help provide information and
understand their Barton financial requirements including financial aid and
assisting students and parents with satisfactory payment arrangements resulting
in a $0 student account balance at the end of each academic semester.
• Receipt student payments accurately to specific student accounts and provide
systems of journal support where required.
• Post miscellaneous transactions to student accounts.
• Produce daily book voucher log entries (make funds available in the
College Bookstore at the beginning of each semester).
• Facilitate dynamic student accounts communications to enable students/parents
to remain current regarding student account balances.
• Submit former student balances to the appropriate collection agency after
executing an exhaustive communications strategy to secure payment for courses
attended in a prior academic semester.
• Advise students and their parents (where applicable) regarding
charges, payment options, and college financial policies.
• Post and monitor payments and changes to student accounts to include
communications to affected students and parents.
• Prepare and distribute student account statements.
• Post and process private, state, and federal student financial aid payments.
• Assist with tracking and collecting outstanding funds for student accounts.
• Perform accounting procedures as coordinated with the Controller to ensure
accurate records.
• Must be available to respond to student/parent inquiries in a professional and
customer-centric manner.
• Ability to receive payment funds from students and other sources and
demonstrate a high level of trust and confidentiality.
• Due to the nature of this position, attention to detail and accuracy is extremely
important.
