Requirements

· Relevant Diploma qualifications or higher, and/or certifications in Counselling / Educational Psychology / Social Work / or in fields related to social and emotional learning or equivalent.

· At least 3 years’ relevant experience in youth engagement, especially in the context of school, managing students with social emotional issues and/or learning difficulties.

Job Description

You shall work closely with the school leaders and Student Development team to ensure a safe and respectful learning environment for all students. The SGSO is also responsible for running the approved school-based programme.

Immediate Support

· To serve as first responder for student management incidents and matters that compromise the safety of members of the school

· To de-escalate situations with the student(s) to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment

· To render immediate support to teachers in managing students’ behaviourial and peer-relationship issues

Corrective Approach

· To lead in fact-finding and investigations of student misconduct and bullying cases, in line with school guidelines and processes

· To discipline students with respect and treat them with dignity

· To recommend and implement follow-up actions (detention, corrective work order, in-school suspension) for misconduct in line with the school policy

Preventive and Restorative Interventions

· To conduct Home visits with a member of the Student Development Team to reach out to students to assess risky behaviours

· To conduct periodic neighbourhood patrol to ensure that students conduct themselves well beyond school compounds

· To supervise students placed on Student Development Programmes (GEAR UP Programme, Special Education Need Programme)

· To facilitate timely and effective communication with parents/ guardians

· To engage parents on the necessary preventive and restorative interventions for the student(s) suggested by School

· To partner external agencies, including the Singapore Police Force, the Ministry of Social and Family Development and Family Service Centres (where necessary)

· To review disciplinary trends

· To suggest proactive character development initiatives to the Student Development Team (leverage on existing programmes)

Administrative and Operations Support

· To assist with fact-finding into cases (interviews with students, watching CCTV) and process the cases with the Student Guidance Team

· To document case findings accurately and maintain proper records on student interventions, so as to ensure parity and continuity of care

· To update student records into the school intranet system

· To provide the administrative support, where necessary
