Student - Intramural Sports Official
Duties and Responsibilities:
Pre-Game Responsibilities
Assist in setting up equipment for evening and weekend intramural activities.
Sign in participants and verify Butler student IDs for intramural teams.
Examine facilities and activity areas for potential safety hazards before play begins.
Contest Responsibilities
Provide quality officiating during intramural contests.
Interpret and enforce Intramural Sports rules fairly and consistently.
Monitor contests to ensure participation occurs in a safe and sportsmanlike manner.
Maintain professionalism and effectively communicate with participants and fellow staff members throughout the event.
Post-Game Responsibilities
Complete sportsmanship ratings for participating teams.
Assist in completing necessary documentation, including accident, incident, and protest reports.
Collect and organize equipment at the end of the activity, including balls, bases, clipboards, tables, flags, jerseys, and other program materials.
Assist in securing the facility and ensuring all activity spaces are properly closed at the conclusion of programming.
Club Sports Event Coverage
Oversee designated home Club Sports events.
Provide site management support to ensure events operate safely and efficiently.
Administer basic first aid within the scope of training and follow established emergency action procedures when needed.

Typical Working Conditions:
1–5-hour shifts
Shifts may be scheduled on any day of the week based on programmatic needs.
Intramural Sports shifts typically occur during the evenings, Monday through Thursday, as well as on Sundays.
Club Sports event coverage most often takes place on Saturdays and Sundays.
Staff members are expected to maintain availability that aligns with the needs of the Intramural Sports and Club Sports programs and communicate any scheduling conflicts in advance.
Location of Work:
At the Health and Recreation Center (HRC), and the IM Fields (Fields next to I lot).

Attire:
RecWell issued IM shirt, whistle, closed toed shoes. Attire may change depending on sport.
Minimum Qualifications:
Be in good academic standing (i.e., Maintain a minimum enrollment of 6+ BU credit hours for undergraduates, 5+ BU credit hours for graduates, and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0+ for undergraduates and 3.0+ for graduate students
Must be able to attend the Annual All Staff Training at the start of each Fall semester
Must successfully complete a background check
American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with diverse populations
Strong interpersonal communication, decision making, conflict management and leadership skills
Participation and Sports Officiating experience preferred.
