SubDiscipline Manager - Advanced Battery Housings & Disruptive Technologies

Posted Updated
Discussion

The Subsystem Discipline Manager (SDM) for Advanced Battery Housings and Disruptive Technologies will lead a team focused on defining, developing, and maturing next-generation battery housing architectures, body-in-white (BIW) structural solutions, and associated manufacturing technologies. The role emphasizes technical leadership, technology road mapping, large structural castings, innovative materials and processes, and the advancement of concepts that improve mass, cost, performance, quality, and industrial efficiency across battery enclosures and broader vehicle body structures. The SDM will also ensure promising technologies are transitioned with appropriate engineering rigor into vehicle programs and production applications.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Technical Direction

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing team responsible for advanced battery housing systems, BIW structural solutions, and disruptive vehicle-body technologies.
  • Set technical direction, priorities, and decision frameworks while fostering accountability, collaboration, innovation, and employee growth.
  • Guide the team through ambiguous, fast-paced advanced development work and align cross-functional stakeholders around clear technical outcomes.

Advanced Technologies, Castings & Innovation

  • Develop and maintain a low-, medium-, and long-term technology roadmap for advanced battery housings, BIW structures, and disruptive manufacturing solutions.
  • Lead benchmarking, concept development, trade studies, and feasibility assessments for battery enclosures and BIW architectures using large and mega castings, integrated underbody structures, stampings, extrusions, composites, hybrid structures, advanced joining, sealing, machining, and material systems.
  • Mature high-value concepts from early feasibility through prototype, validation, industrialization assessment, and production-readiness recommendations.
  • Build partnerships across research, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and the supplier base to assess feasibility, investment, cost, mass, performance, scalability, and intellectual property opportunities.

Engineering Execution & Industrialization Support

  • Provide oversight of design integration, engineering release, validation, risk management, supplier readiness, and launch support to ensure advanced concepts can be executed successfully.
  • Ensure key technical deliverables meet applicable safety, quality, cost, timing, regulatory, manufacturing, and customer requirements, with clear communication of risks and decisions.
