Position Summary

Rochester Academy of Science (RocSci) is seeking a dependable and flexible Substitute Teacher to provide classroom instruction and support student learning when the regular teacher is absent. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe, positive, and productive learning environment while following lesson plans and school policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher.

• Provide instruction and support student learning in accordance with established lesson plans.

• Maintain classroom management and promote a positive learning environment.

• Supervise students and ensure their safety throughout the school day.

• Follow school policies, procedures, and behavioral expectations.

• Take attendance and maintain accurate classroom records as needed.

• Communicate classroom concerns, student behavior issues, and other relevant information to school administration.

• Support the academic, social, and emotional needs of students.

• Collaborate with school staff to ensure continuity of instruction.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by school administration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; candidates must meet applicable New York State requirements for the assignment.

• Previous teaching or classroom experience preferred.

• Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.

• Ability to work effectively with elementary school students.

• Ability to follow instructions, adapt to changing classroom needs, and maintain professionalism.

• Dependable, punctual, and committed to student success.

Employment Requirements

• Must complete all required pre-employment documentation and background clearance requirements before beginning employment.

• Must comply with all school policies, procedures, and applicable New York State education requirements.

Work Environment

This position is based at Rochester Academy of Science (RocSci) Elementary School. Substitute assignments may vary depending on staffing needs and may include short-term or extended classroom coverage.
