Substitute Teacher – Flexible, As-Needed Part-Time Position

Are you looking for flexible, part-time work where you can make a meaningful difference? Knoxville Montessori School is looking for dependable, caring substitute teachers to support our classrooms throughout the school year.

We are an independent, nonprofit Montessori school serving children ages 1.5 –18. Our classrooms encourage independence, curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.

You do not need Montessori experience to apply! We welcome applicants who enjoy working with children, are eager to learn, and want to be part of a supportive school community.

What You'll Do:

• Help create a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for students.
• Supervise children and support their daily routines and activities.
• Follow classroom plans and guidance provided by the lead teacher.
• Assist students with their work, transitions, and everyday needs.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and staff to keep the school day running smoothly.

Who We're Looking For:

We are looking for someone who is caring, dependable, flexible, and enjoys being around children.

• At least 21 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience working with children is preferred but not required.
• Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
• Dependable, punctual, and comfortable adapting to different classroom environments.
• Willingness to learn and follow school procedures and Montessori classroom practices.

Experience in childcare, camps, tutoring, coaching, education, or other child-focused settings is welcome. Montessori experience is a plus, but we are happy to help the right person learn about our approach.

Schedule & Compensation

• Flexible, part-time, as-needed schedule during the school year.
• School-day shifts generally fall between 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM, with occasional opportunities for aftercare coverage until 5:30 PM.
• Opportunities to support different age groups and classrooms.
• Hourly pay based on experience.
