Summary

A summer analyst on Axium Infrastructure's investment team supporting private equity infrastructure deals end to end: screening opportunities, building financial models and DCF valuations, performing due diligence, and drafting investment memos and portfolio monitoring reports. Core toolkit: Excel financial modeling, PowerPoint, and bilingual French/English.

The Summer Analyst will be an active member of the investment team and will participate on all aspects of the direct private equity investment process and monitoring including: investment screening, financial modeling, sector analysis, transaction due diligence, participation in investment decision process, preparation of investment recommendation memos and post-investment monitoring activities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Investment analysis and transaction due diligence

  • Support other members of the investment team to perform preliminary analysis of infrastructure investment opportunities, review of public and technical information and perform competitive valuation and reviews.
  • Participate in due diligence of infrastructure investments, analyze key investment merits and risks, review documentation and work in conjunction with third party consultants if required.
  • Build complex financial models, including performing extensive sensitivity analysis, review of financial projections and valuation assumptions.
  • Participate in the preparation of investment recommendation memorandums for investment approval.

Active management of investments

  • Review infrastructure investment monitoring reports from external sources.
  • Prepare quarterly valuations of existing assets using detailed discounted cashflow models.
  • Prepare periodic reports and undertake various analysis on portfolio status and performance with assigned responsibility to specific investments.
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations to support fund raising.
  • Any other task as may be required.


PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong interest in corporate finance, investment and infrastructure.
  • Business / Finance undergraduate degree in progress with highest academic standing (minimum 3.5 / 4.0 GPA).
  • Experience in investment, corporate finance, investment banking, or transaction advisory (an asset).
  • Financial modeling course in Project Finance/Infrastructure (an asset).
  • Involvement with a finance and/or Investment Student Association (an asset).

  • Project management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership and sound business judgment.
  • Mature, driven, motivated and ability to take initiative.
  • Responsible, diligent and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good attention to detail and presentation of information.
  • Superior level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook).
  • Bilingual in both spoken and written French and English, in order to interact daily with colleagues in offices outside Quebec as well as with external partners across Canada, the United States, and internationally.
