Job Summary
Airthings is looking for curious and hands-on summer interns to join our engineering team in 2026. The summer project will likely be based on a Connected Prototype Challenge or a similar exploratory project, where you will help build a small end-to-end sensing prototype, from hardware and firmware to a working demo.
The exact project is still to be defined, but the goal is to give you a real engineering challenge related to sensors, embedded systems, connectivity, and indoor air quality technology.
What you may work on
- Build and test an early hardware prototype using sensors, development boards, and/or custom electronics.
- Write firmware for data collection, device control, connectivity, and low-power operation.
- Integrate sensors using interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, BLE, or Wi-Fi.
- Debug hardware and firmware using lab equipment, logs, and test scripts.
- Collect and analyze data from the prototype.
- Document design choices, learnings, and recommendations.
- Present a working demo and final results to the engineering team.
What we are looking for
We are looking for students who enjoy building things and learning across disciplines. You may be studying electronics, cybernetics, embedded systems, computer engineering, robotics, or a related field.
You do not need to know everything already, but you should be interested in several of the following:
- Currently in your 3rd or 4th year of university studies.
- Electronics and sensor systems.
- Embedded programming in C/C++, Rust, or similar.
- Microcontrollers, development kits, or IoT devices.
- Hardware debugging with oscilloscopes, multimeters, or logic analyzers.
- Communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, BLE, or Wi-Fi.
- Low-power design and battery-powered devices.
- Python or other scripting for testing and automation.
What we offer
- A hands-on summer project with real engineering relevance.
- Experience with hardware, firmware, sensors, and connected prototypes.
- Mentoring from experienced Airthings engineers.
- The opportunity to contribute learnings that may influence future Airthings products.
- A final project demo you can be proud of.
- A supportive, social, and inclusive work environment at our Oslo headquarters.
The project scope will be adapted to the selected interns’ backgrounds and may involve a mix of hardware, firmware, data collection, and simple cloud/dashboard integration.
