Key responsibilities
- Develop lift and haul schedules at site and assist with optimization and utilization of lifting resources according to site priorities.
- Provide planning, selection of crane, lifting gear and equipment, instruction, and necessary safety precautions.
- Ensure that lifting activities at site are planned, scheduled, and executed with the highest regard for personal safety and environmental excellence.
- Support in developing method statements and job safety analyses (JSAs).
- Conduct daily site audits to ensure HSE and lifting/hauling inspections and procedure compliance.
- Monitor project lifting and rigging operations to ensure all lifts are performed in accordance with approved rigging plans and procedures.
- Responsible for the day-to-day cranes and lifting activities at site.
- Act as the qualified person for all load-out, load-in, hauling, and erection activities using lifting equipment.
- Ensure all lifting and hauling equipment are well maintained, inspected, and certified by approved third parties and meet regulatory frequency requirements.
- Ensure all personnel involved in lifting and hauling operations are trained, competent, and third-party certified.
- Conduct training of rigging personnel, verify occupational competence (VOC) assessments, and maintain such records at site.
- Review and approve lift plans, rigging and lifting procedures, and lift studies including subcontractors’ lift plans.
- Confirm there is an effective procedure for reporting defects and incidents and take any corrective action.
Essential qualifications and skills
- Extensive rigging and lifting site experience in direct hire construction with an international oil and gas EPC company and with subcontractors overseeing or managing project lifting and rigging operations in all stages, including modular, static, rotating equipment as well as heavy and oversize transport operations.
- Minimum number of years’ experience as a rigging supervisor.
- Minimum number of years’ experience as a lifting superintendent.
- College graduate, preferably an engineer by profession.
- Preference will be given to candidates who meet the following criteria:
- Experience working in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS/FSU), Middle East, and/or North Africa.
- Prior experience working with a diverse international workforce.
- Good communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of international lifting and rigging standards such as ASME, OSHA, and LOLER regulations.
- Trained and competent for the task in accordance with local legal requirements whenever applicable, e.g., Abu Dhabi EHSMS – EHS Code of Practice 34.0: Safe use of Lifting Equipment and Lifting Accessories.
- Formal training by an approved third-party training institute and accredited by OPITO, e.g., NPORS BV (or equivalent third-party training). Letters from the crane supplier will not be accepted.
- Able to produce working reports.
- Able to coordinate possible simultaneous operations (SIMOPS).
- Able to train and qualify riggers, rigging supervisors, and crane operators.
- Working knowledge and interpretation skills of lifting drawings and calculations and able to provide guidance to subcontractors. Capable of reviewing and approving lift plans, studies, rigging, and lifting procedures.
- Able to generate project lifting and rigging procedures when necessary.
- General knowledge in the inspection of lifting gear and equipment such as overhead cranes, gantries, davit arms, winches, and others.
